I think that the erosion and rejection of basic Christian principles, the respect for life and property and religion, was and is the reason for the steady, relentless decline of America. Without the underlying foundation and promotion of these Christian principles, especially by government, dishonesty, lawlessness, anarchy, and tyranny will ultimately result.
