Dr. Shane Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Bill Clinton: U.S. Ready for Female President Quote: Despite the prediction, the former president said it would be a mistake for his wife and current Democratic Party front-runner to begin focusing on a 2008 presidential run. "I have urged all of Hillary’s supporters not to think about that, because she’s got to run for re-election" as senator, he told "60 Minutes." "And it’s a big hazard for anybody who’s up for re-election to think about anything but re-election." Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Moderators Bravus Posted January 3, 2006 Moderators Posted January 3, 2006 I might have mentioned here before: I dream of a Hilary vs Condi presidential race. Condi is scary for all sorts of reasons, but a race that guarantees a woman president, and possibly a black woman president? Priceless! And what a feather in the cap of the Republicans if it's them who make both those breaks with tradition! Quote Truth is important
Administrators Naomi Posted January 3, 2006 Administrators Posted January 3, 2006 Hummm ... a President who will be identified by gender and race. Interesting. Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
Moderators Bravus Posted January 3, 2006 Moderators Posted January 3, 2006 Hmmm... so the only way to avoid that is to stick with old white guys forever? Of course the first female president will be identified as that, and the first black president will be identified as that - but hopefully not only that. A president who restores America's reputation in the world will be remembered more for that than for gender and race. Quote Truth is important
Dr. Shane Posted January 3, 2006 Author Posted January 3, 2006 Don't start sounding too much like Dick Morris. Condi has said she has no interest in elected office. She is socially too moderate for the religious right to embrace her so she would have a hard time getting the nomination if she did run. Historically Republicans have supported civil rights more and are the party that abolished slavery. However the moderan black leadership favors Democrats because they see big government entitlement programs as being more favorable for blacks than small government. GW Bush did increase the percentage of black support for the GOP from 6% to 13% but that is still only a sliver. I would look for a prominant hispanic Republican to become president before a black Republican does. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
bevin Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 I hope the Democrats aren't stupid enough to pick her - but it would be good to have her in the Primary My guess - John McCain will be the next president. He is apparently a lot more honest and a lot smarter than the current president (damning with faint praise, I know), and the Democrats still aren't presenting any actual plausible plans for anything. One can only hope the USA doesn't drag too much of the rest of the world down with it as it lapses into being just another has-been ex-super power. /Bevin Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted January 3, 2006 Moderators Posted January 3, 2006 G'day Shane Yeah, I know it's unlikely - it was just a dream! <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> It'll be interesting to see what happens, but we have to wait until 2008, and by that time I'll be on the other side of the world and will care a little less, I think... I agree that so far the Democrats haven't managed to get their platform out there. I believe they have one, but just haven't been able to make the running so far. Maybe Barak Obama (sp?) will be the first black president? Quote Truth is important
Dr. Shane Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 Quote: My guess - John McCain will be the next president. He will be 72 years old in 2008 and the religious right doesn't like him. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Neil D Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 With Carl Limbacher and NewsMax.com Staff For the story behind the story... Monday, Jan. 2, 2006 9:25 a.m. EST Bill Clinton: U.S. Ready for Female President Ex-president Bill Clinton said Sunday that his "gut" tells him the country is ready to elect a woman president, as long as she is the right kind of candidate. Asked if the popularity of TV president Geena Davis means that America is "ready for a female commander in chief," Clinton told CBS's "60 Minutes," "My gut is, yes." "If a woman came across as strong and seasoned and well-prepared, if you said the right things in the right way and you had a good record to back it up, my gut is, yes," he explained. "But the hard truth is we wont know until it happens," Clinton added. [:"blue"] I don't think that this will happen. I think that Hillary may be stopped in the primarys. And yet, this is what the right says...that Hillary will run for President and that the country will slide into oblivion...The above is from NewsMax, a republican conservative internet Mat Drudge wannabe. This stuff reminds me of Star Wars where the Senator Palpatine controls the senate and the press,,,all to press his agenda. Dr. Shane Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 NewsMax is a conservative, Republican-friendly, news agency. There is no doubt about that. Like most biased news agencies, they are guilty of selective reporting. They do not preseent both sides and make no claim of being balanced. They are comparable to salon.com on the other extreame (however NewsMax is free). I don't fear a Hilary presidency if it should happen. I am interested in how she will position herself. If she moves far enough to the middle on abortion, I would consider voting for her. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
