An Interesting article in Jews News today on Pork, I have to admit that I did not know that about Rattlesnakes!

"1) A pig is a real garbage gut. It will eat anything including urine, excrement, dirt, decaying animal flesh, maggots, or decaying vegetables. They will even eat the cancerous growths off other pigs or animals.

2) The meat and fat of a pig absorbs toxins like a sponge. Their meat can be 30 times more toxic than beef or venison.

3) When eating beef or venison, it takes 8 to 9 hours to digest the meat so what little toxins are in the meat are slowly put into our system and can be filtered by the liver. But when pork is eaten, it takes only 4 hours to digest the meat. We thus get a much higher level of toxins within a shorter time.

4) Unlike other mammals, a pig does not sweat or perspire. Perspiration is a means by which toxins are removed from the body. Since a pig does not sweat, the toxins remain within its body and in the meat.

5) Pigs and swine are so poisonous that you can hardly kill them with strychnine or other poisons.

6) Farmers will often pen up pigs within a rattlesnake nest because the pigs will eat the snakes, and if bitten they will not be harmed by the venom.

7) When a pig is butchered, worms and insects take to its flesh sooner and faster than to other animal’s flesh. In a few days the swine flesh is full of worms.6) Farmers will often pen up pigs within a rattlesnake nest because the pigs will eat the snakes, and if bitten they will not be harmed by the venom.

Swine and pigs have over a dozen parasites within them, such as tapeworms, flukes, worms, and trichinae. There is no safe temperature at which pork can be cooked to ensure that all these parasites, their cysts, and eggs will be killed.

9) Pig meat has twice as much fat as beef. A 3 oz T bone steak contains 8.5 grams of fat; a 3 oz pork chop contains 18 grams of fat. A 3 oz beef rib has 11.1 grams of fat; a 3 oz pork spare rib has 23.2 grams of fat.

10) Cows have a complex digestive system, having four stomachs. It thus takes over 24 hours to digest their vegetarian diet causing its food to be purified of toxins. In contrast, the swine’s one stomach takes only about 4 hours to digest its foul diet, turning its toxic food into flesh.

11) The swine carries about 30 diseases which can be easily passed to humans. This is why God commanded that we are not even to touch their carcase (Leviticus 11:8).

12) The trichinae worm of the swine is microscopically small, and once ingested can lodge itself in our intestines, muscles, spinal cord or the brain. This results in the disease trichinosis. The symptoms are sometimes lacking, but when present they are mistaken for other diseases, such as typhoid, arthritis, rheumatism, gastritis, MS, meningitis, gall bladder trouble, or acute alcoholism.

13) The pig is so poisonous and filthy, that nature had to prepare him a sewer line or canal running down each leg with an outlet in the bottom of the foot. Out of this hole oozes pus and filth his body cannot pass into its system fast enough. Some of this pus gets into the meat of the pig.

Pork products tend to be salty, so it may be wise to take all this with a fine grain of salt...

Do a bit of home work on this and you will find that there is a fair bit of misinformation in this bit that is circulating far and wide on the internets.

For example, many poisons are harmful to pigs pretty much the same as humans, including snake venom. You can kill a pig with poison.   As for their flesh having more toxins because they do not sweat/perspire,  Cows do not sweat, chickens do not sweat, goats do not sweat. And I am fairly certain fish don't either.  Their meat is kosher.  But horses do sweat.  Their meat is not kosher.  What is the fallacy in this idea?  Sweating isn't the primary means of getting rid of toxins from the body and the junk consumed through diet.  The liver and kidneys do that job, very much the same for pigs as other animals including humans.

As for what they eat, are you aware at all the disgusting things goats and chickens also eat if given a chance?  I grew up on a farm.  I know. Pretty much everything the poor little pigs are accused of.  If you are picking out naturally raised farm animals on the cleanliness factor and what they wallow in,  cows are filthy too.  Sheep and goats are disgustingly smelly and dirty.  Makes you sort not so enthused about wherein wool after you see what is matted and knotted up in sheep's wool!

As for the passage of meats through the digestive system and the toxin absorbing as a result that is just backwards.  The longer it takes the more is absorbed, not the other way around.  That is how the intestines work.  But the speed with which things move through is driven by the amount of fiber pushing it through.  So eat lots of veggies and any meat will get moved right along.

Be skeptical and think twice before swallowing hook line and sinker everything that you find on the internet, see on Facebook, or get in an e-mail from your favorite uncle...

I am not disputing that.  It is sort of like mothers telling their children to not cross their eyes because they will get stuck that way.  Not true of course.  So once the kid figures that out, what else is untrue in what mother said?  Using false information to convince someone that pork products are not good to eat is counter productive and undermines other more important messages we might have.  It destroys our credibility.

Taeniasis/cysticercosis Key facts

Taeniasis is an intestinal infection caused by adult tapeworms.
Taeniasis is acquired by humans through the ingestion of tapeworm larval cysts (cysticerci) in undercooked pork or beef.
Human tapeworm carriers excrete tapeworm eggs in their faeces and contaminate the environment when they defecate in the open.
Humans can also become infected with T. solium eggs by ingesting contaminated food or water (human cysticercosis) or as a result of poor hygiene.
Cysts that develop in the central nervous system can cause a preventable form of epilepsy called neurocysticercosis.
More than 80% of the world’s 50 million people who are affected by epilepsy live in low- and lower-middle-income countries.
T. solium is the cause of 30% of epilepsy cases in many endemic areas where people and roaming pigs live in close proximity.

http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs376/en/

Cystercercosis is a parasite disease from the pig tapeworm. I think I would rather have trichinosis than cystercercosis, thank you very much! However, yes, there are many diseases from pigs and other animals. Unfortunately, the pig tapeworm can be transmitted person to person and more and more cystercercosis is coming to the USA from other countries by the immigrant population.

This is what you might see on a brain scan of someone with cystercercosis:

I recall that Snopes debunked that story.  The X-rays were either bogus or actually of something else.

Having a good reason to post something bogus doesn't make it any less bogus.  And OK. bogus MRIs then.  :reyes:   Can you substantiate with certainty the authenticate of those MRIs?  Or did you just dredge those off the internet too?

Snopes is pretty reliable.

OK Tom, I recently left bedside nursing after over thirty years of taking care of neurosurgical intensive care patients. I am a Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN). I also have a Masters degree in Nursing. While I posted images off of Bing, I have seen these images before in the MRI scanner rooms before the physicians got to see them when I took patient to MRIs. I have taken care of several cystercerosis patients thru my years of ICU nursing. I suspicion I  ...  MIGHT   ...  have a clue ... what I am talking about.

"white spots" can appear in normal MRI's, as well as abnormal MRI''s.  It's the structural appearance, dispersement, density, enhancement time, and type of contrast used that can determine whether or not something is abnormal on the scans.

From the World Health Organization's May 2015 Fact Sheet on Taeniasis/cysticercosis:

Cysticercosis is acquired when proglottids or eggs are ingested. It is a natural infection of pigs and cattle but, in the case of T. solium, it can also affect humans, usually when they swallow T. solium egg-contaminated soil, water or food (mainly vegetables).

 T. solium eggs can be transmitted in a number of ways, e.g., ingesting contaminated food or water, or as a result of poor hygiene.

While RNs can have some incredible knowledge, they are not diagnostic imaging professionals (of which we have several here on C/A)  :D

But SUPPOSE science discovers  some highly significant benefit comes from eating pork which would be greater than those touted in some verboten substances which are now commonly consumed in some Adventist circles, would it be okay to eat it then?

Posted

One reason I do not eat pork is because it keeps me "in check" with God. It's sort of a thing I do to remind myself that this body is a gift and it's not going to be around forever. It's something God gave me to use while I'm hanging around on this planet and I'm trying to take care of it according to the User's Manual.

There is always some reason that God based his requirements on for the Hebrew people to follow. And even if its found that pork is no threat to our health, which I really doubt, I still would not eat it. As we can see from the time of the flood, man has increasingly lived a shorter and shorter life, because of eating meat. Now in this age of medical tech, we have been able to increase some to living a little longer.

The pig is highlighted by some Jewish people because it became their identity for non assimilation. The prohibition in the Torah against eating pigs had to be explained because a pig has a the right hoof but did not chew its cud. An animal like a lion was easy to declare unclean.

This singling out of the pig as the chief unclean animal started with the Greeks. Pig meat was popular with the Greeks, just like camel meat was popular in the east. Antiochus IV sacrificed a pig on the alter and made Jews eat pork meat to denounce God. The Romans would make similar spectacles and mockery with pigs. Christians would also test Jewish converts with eating pork in order to see if they genuinely converted. It was not because pork was more unclean than other animals-it was just more available in the west. These conflicts made Jewish people identify with pigs as the ultimate unclean animal.

This ultimate distinction is Talmud based, not based on the Law of Moses.

The next misrepresentation is that unclean means unhealthy. Nowhere in the Law of Moses does it state that the unclean animals were unhealthy animals. God does not state the reason why they are unholy, He just states that they are. Water is declared holy, but water is the cause of most sickness and disease in the world. In the west we have to treat it in order to minimize sickness and disease epidemics. A health based paradigm leads to dead ends and is not credible.

The torah explicitly explains the unclean animals in order to set them apart from the nations. This would have been very effective when it came to dining with the foreigner in the land, and from other countries.

Do not defile yourself by any animal or bird or anything that moves along the ground—those which I have set apart as unclean for you. You are to be holy to me because I the LORD am holy and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own

When I read the "rules" in books like Leviticus and Deuteronomy, it seems like there is a distinction between being unclean and sinful. Is eating pork an equivalent sin to breaking the Sabbath or abusing drugs/alcohol?  If While we don't use pork in our house, if we are invited to someone's home and they serve pork, I will ask God's blessing and eat it, usually complimenting the host on how delicious the meal is.  I think paul talks about doing this somewhere.

I can't imagine the unclean foods that missionaries must eat with indigenous people .  They eat it or risk insulting and alienating the people they came to serve.  Beetle grubs, anyone? Slimy but satisfying.

Many will try to say it is about health, or that it is about pagan practices like pigs being honored and sacrificed to the underworld God's in Egypt. If this was the case then the bull would be unclean as it was the hated worshipped image of Baal.

God did not tell us specifically why some animals were unclean but we know what other instances of unclean and being unclean was attributed to. It was unintentional sin based on death. This is why it was unclean to touch any dead animal that was'nt killed for food or sacrifice. The ultimate in being unclean was to touch a dead human body. This is why it is forbidden to have sex with a persons wife on her time of the month, life is leaving her body (death) and it was not holy to mix life with death. This also is the same message with cooking a baby goat in its mothers milk-this would be mixing what gives life with a death....so on and so forth. While we dont have to cannonize or practice these things, we need to understand them.

This only made a person unholy in order to be in God's Holy presence at the Temple. There would be a time restraint, then sometimes water to ceremonially cleanse the person, then these things only made them acceptable to enter the Temple in order to offer sacrifice-then they were Holy. God is the author of life and order, death is unholy and disorder-the two can't mix.

If we take this message to the unclean animals, we can assume that it would have something to do with death. the animals shown as unclean are usually high association with being scavengers and predators.

Ya, it would be pretty gruesome to be given a plate of spiders
