If I'm not mistaken, I read and/or saw this on NPR, TV Station, etc., this last week or so. They were saying it would take out quite a bit of the west coast!!

One of the thoughts in the article is that the particular area of the quake is long overdue for another "slippage". From my understanding, the more overdue they become, the bigger the quake when it finally happens. What is bizarre about this is that in the west hills of Portland, there are a lot of houses built well up on the sides of hills on stilts. I believe a lot of these houses are just going to roll down to the bottom when the quake comes. Tall buildings sit on the edge of these big hills they are racing to make them earthquake "friendly" such as the south hospital of OHSU where you can see new girders in front of windows. And when I say these buildings sit on the edge of hills, the lobby of this hospital is on the NINTH floor! The whole coast of Oregon and Washington everywhere has tsunami zone warning signs to let you know that you are in a tsunami zone range. The potential death tolls for a powerful earthquake seemed to have been made at a conservative level. If one were to happen in the summer, when the beaches are crowded, it will much worse. I doubt that regionally or even nationally, the people are prepared for a disaster of this potential magnitude.
