Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted August 3, 2015 Moderators Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) In 2014 a customer asked Marjorie Silva, the owner of the Azucar Bakery, in Denver, to bake a cake with an anti-gay message on it. She refused. She informed the customer that she would bake the cake, but he would have to write the message on it himself. A discrimination complaint was filed with the Colorado Civil Rights Division. In June (2015) a male customer asked a local Wal-Marat, in Louisiana, to bake a cake and place an image of the Confederate and the phrase "Heritage Not Hate," on the cake. Wal-Mart refused. The customer than requested a cake with an image of the Islamic State flag. Wal-Mart provided it. In a public announcement Wal-Mart has apologized and stated that their employee did not understand the meaning of the ISS Flag. NOTE: The legal issues related to the Louisiana case differs from the legal issues related to the Oregon bakery that was fined $135,000 for refusing to bake a cake for same-sex wedding. Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted August 3, 2015 Author Moderators Posted August 3, 2015 My source of information for the Denver case came from a current media report. It appears that the report I read was not current. For more information on the Denver case see: It is always good to check things out. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/local-news/denvers-azucar-bakery-wins-right-to-refuse-to-make-anti-gay-cake Stan 1 Quote Gregory
