Sojourner Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 This is a cut and paste from Church Leaders.com because I do not want to pass it off as my own work, yet the point they drive at is one I agree with also. God will never give you anything you cannot handle. "Why should we stop saying this? Because it’s a lie. … We’ve completely twisted 1 Corinthians 10:13, as this verse is pointing toward temptation, and even then it states God will be there if things get too tough. The reality is that God just might give us things we can’t handle so that we will gaze toward him for the extra help. Mind blowing right? Realize that not everything is going to go the way you plan, think or hope. Sometimes stuff is going to hit the fan, and in order for you to get through it, you are going to NEED to rely on God’s comfort, peace and understanding. We weren’t meant to do life alone. Outta Here Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Thanks for sharing this, Sojourner. It's something that's bothered me for a long time. When I try to explain it to people, they look at my like my head's cut off. Maybe I can share this link and they'll believe it since it's from "Church Leaders" and not just some person in Sabbath School class... Sojourner 1 Quote
JoeMo Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 God sees us THROUGH our toughest trials - not around them. The Bible is clear that challenges will come - offenses persecution, grief. The fact that we are here talking about this is indication that He's seen us through the tough times so far - even times we didn't think we could handle. We have survived. Even of we don't survive some future trouble in this realm, maybe God will see us through that trial right through the pearly gates into the heavenly realm. Naomi and Sojourner 2 Quote
pnattmbtc Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I think a lot of the things God allows have nothing to do with God's will, but are the result of being in a Great Controversy. Naomi 1 Quote Christ exalted the character of God, attributing to him the praise, and giving to him the credit, of the whole purpose of his own mission on earth,--to set men right through the revelation of God.
Geoarrge Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Rely on God for what kind of help, exactly? I'm getting tired of reaching out and finding nothing for ten years. Quote To be an agent of creation is to serve the Creator.
JoeMo Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Rely on God for what kind of help, exactly? I'm getting tired of reaching out and finding nothing for ten years. If you can't find evidence of God's work in your life, you're looking in the wrong places. The very fact that you are still alive testifies to God's protrction over you. Maybe God is just not answering your prayers the way you expect Him to; and He's telling you to look at better alternative answers to your prayers. When I look for what God is doing rather than what He is not doing, I see God at work in many places. Maybe if we look for what God is already blessing and do that, we will have more success than doing something and then asking God to bless it. Sojourner and Naomi 2 Quote
B/W Photodude Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Rely on God for what kind of help, exactly? I'm getting tired of reaching out and finding nothing for ten years. I hear what you say, but exactly what kind of help are you reaching out for? I would hope this is in no way patronizing or other negative sentiments, but are you asking for help according to his will. I admit it can be kind of confusing to try and determine his will to compare to your requests, but some kinds of things are not his will and not likely to be given even if others get it and claim he gave it to them. Prosperity types of religious thought, for example, is a fail in my book. pnattmbtc Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 When a man takes one step toward God, God takes more steps toward that man than there are sands in the worlds of time. Geoarrge Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I don't see how it wouldn't be His will. I want to be able to sustain the motivation and patience to do what I have been called to do, consistently, 6 days a week. And I want to stop having to do everything alone. The Bible seems to say these are perfectly correct, so I don't know what to say if reality isn't lining up with it. Quote To be an agent of creation is to serve the Creator.

The Bible seems to say these are perfectly correct, so I don't know what to say if reality isn't lining up with it. Hmmm. I say this with all sincerity, no rebuke intended. Could it possibly be that you weren't really called to do what you think you were called to do? I ask because in my own experience, some things I have become so passionate about that I was SURE God was calling me to do them. Turned out I was wrong; that I misinterpreted my passion as a sign of God's calling. Naomi 1 Quote
Geoarrge Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Sure it's possible, but if that's the case I have no clue what else I'm supposed to be doing. Tired of running around in circles. Quote To be an agent of creation is to serve the Creator.

Sometimes exercising faith can be messy and risky. Sometimes we think we hear God; but it is just our imagination. Sometimes we think we imagine things; but it's really God talking to us. I wish I had some consistent ways to know the difference! Sojourner 1 Quote
