I just read a bunch of FB posts about people complaining about how much they'll have to spend on school supplies for their kids this year. Some were complaining that the cost was upward of US$500. It would be nice if we who are in the top 1% (worldwide) could spend more time appreciating what we do have and less time complaining about what we don't. It's the closest thing to a "Camp Meeting" (i.e., a large gatheing of SDAs from all over) that I have attended in over 20 years. I'll get to meet at least one CA member in person there. I'm about to start getting my school supplies for my 11th grader, we homeschool and I don't think I've ever spent $500 on a school year. Well maybe when I was teaching two in two different grades. Do you know what they were getting? That just seems like a lot to me. On another note, anyone else fighting ticks this year? We've always had them bad, but this year seems extreme, my poor dogs are miserable. Has anyone found that one thing that keeps them off? I'm all ears. Liz, that was one of the parents complaining about the cost. I think there may have been a computer tablet somewhere in that cost...or maybe school uniforms. I do know some were complaining that they had to buy 18 glue stick tubes, and boxes of Kleenex and dry-erase markers. Sorry about the ticks. Mosquitoes are filling the starring pest role this summer for us. I've had to do a lot of yard maintenance and they've been awful (the ants have been playing a supporting role as well). Best thing I know of for ticks is to stay away from trees and tall grasses. Stan and Liz 2 Quote

We went back to using the tube, squeezing it out on the back of the dog's neck and working it down. I've gotten a half-dozen tick bites over the years. Don't seem to have Lyme's Disease, yet. Some have music, some just enjoy good companionship. Corn is cooked in the shucks (natural state) in Huge containers of hot water then as soon as it is cool enough cut off the ends and the husk and silk just falls off. But it is corn season here, too and I love the ears from the first crops! Melt in your mouth! For fleas we use Sentinel. They are pills that work for a month or so. We have never had fleas in the house. Are ticks the same as chiggers?
