Moderators lazarus Posted August 10, 2015 Moderators Posted August 10, 2015 I think this is true. Donald Trump is effectively the "Id" (in Freudian terms) of American conservatism, an unfiltered window into the impulsive (mostly unconscious) part of the human psyche that responds directly and immediately to the instincts. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rev-dr-susan-brooks-thistlethwaite/white-america-what-is-you_b_7962720.html Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. CoAspen Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 That is my suspicion. Operating at most basic instinct level. Because of his money, feels no need to have common courtesy and sense in speaking to or about others. Opens mouth and lets his brain fall out. Rather sad. Quote
bonnie Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 It might be a lot smarter to ignore him and his comments. Another New Poll is Out and You’ll BE SHOCKED at How Big Trump’s Lead Has Gotten 10Aug, 2015by Warner Todd Huston With all the talk by establishment Republicans that Trump is “finished” because of his often over the top comments about people, one would think that he’d be falling in the polls now. But that guess would be completely wrong, apparently. This new poll is just adding to Trump’s rise. Trump has not only NOT lost any ground, he’s gained! A Trumptastic start to the most interesting week of presidential polling this year so far, which should answer the question, “How much does a debate watched by 24 million people really matter?” If you’re a Trump-hater, good news: This was an online poll, and you know to be wary of online polls. Wait for your Gallup/NYT/WaPo/CBS/NBC/ABC/CNN/Fox polls before forming any judgments. If you’re a Trump-lover, one word: Yuge. If you’re having trouble reading the graph, that’s Trump with 32 percent (up from 25 last week), Jeb Bush with 11, Ben Carson with nine, and Scott Walker and Marco Rubio tied with six. Is that result plausible, something we should expect other polls this week to replicate? Well, you tell me. Trump did have double-digit leads in several pre-debate polls last week — 11 points, specifically, according to CBS, Fox, and Bloomberg and even bigger leads in some others (14 points in Monmouth and 16 points in Rasmussen). A 21-point lead now wouldn’t be an unfathomable jump from those starting points, especially given the size of the debate’s audience. Likewise, Morning Consult detected some modest upward movement here for Carly Fiorina, rising from one percent last week to three percent now along with a sharp spike in her favorable rating. That’s the sort of thing you’d expect an accurate poll to capture given the consensus view that Fiorina’s performance was the biggest standout on Thursday night. This is a pretty amazing ride for Donald Trump, isn’t it? Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. brotherly love Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I would not have considered Trump a good leader up until now. I did not like him. This is changing, and out of all the candidates, he was the strongest leader. The questions posed to him were lopsided and designed to attack him. The other candidates would have tried explaining them away and gone into politics 101. Say lots, but really say nothing. He made no excuse and stood by his words. This shows strength and leadership even if you dont agree or like him-this is why he is leading. Quote
Aliensanctuary Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 While most politicians tend to misrepresent their true beliefs or intents in order to get the money and get elected, including our current POTUS, Trump seems to have no reason to lie in order to please anyone. WYSIWYG, a scrappy, bombastic rich guy who will take on Megan Fox, Putin, the Ayatollah, or anyone else who wants to pick a fight with him. bonnie Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 (edited) Just as in the election of Ventura,he did not win because he was conservative or liberal. Had it not been for the surprising defection of over 305 democrats Ventura would never have one. In MN democrats were more likely to believe the name of Humphrey was like saying the "right hand of God" Most would not have even questioned conservative VS liberal. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 13, 2015 Administrators Posted August 13, 2015 Trump is very intentionally the Republican primary spoiler. It really isn't about him winning the nomination. His approach is to make whoever does get it unlikely to be able to beat any Democrat that runs. That is why he very well could run as an independent. To spoil the general election to guarantee a win by whatever Democrat runs. Why on earth would he do that you might wonder? Very simple. It is all about how he introduced his campaign and something that he keeps reminding us of. He is a very rich man. And very rich men like nothing better than getting richer. And far more than losing a political race, they hate to lose money. So Trump will do whatever it takes to make more money and avoid losing money. He once said that in his experience, the economy always does better when a Democrat is president. Rich people get richer when a Democrat is in the White House. He is simply making a calculated investment in making that happen so he can make more money for the next 4-8 year than he will ever spend pretending he is running for president. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
bonnie Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 (edited) Trump is very intentionally the Republican primary spoiler. It really isn't about him w against inning the nomination. His approach is to make whoever does get it unlikely to be able to beat any Democrat that runs. That is why he very well could run as an independent. To spoil the general election to guarantee a win by whatever Democrat runs. Almost word for word said about Ventura who did run as an independent. More democrats defected and voted Ventura than did republicans Campaign[edit] Ventura spent around $300,000 and combined it with an aggressive grassroots campaign that featured a statewide bus tour, pioneered use of the Internet for political purposes, and aired quirky TV ads designed by Bill Hillsman, who forged the phrase “Don’t vote for politics as usual.”[5] Unable to afford many television ads, Ventura mainly focused on televised debates and public appearances, preaching his brand of libertarian politics. His speech at a parade in rural Minnesota during the summer attracted what organizers of the annual event described as one of its largest audiences. He ran on cutting taxes, reducing state government, and reducing public school classroom sizes to a 17 to 1 ratio. He also supported a public debate on the viability of legalized prostitution.[6] Polling[edit] A poll taken in June showed that Coleman would defeat any other Democratic candidate than Humphrey. But Humphrey would defeat Coleman 44% to 34%. However, Ventura polled in the double digits. No other candidate in the Reform party's brief history in Minnesota has received more than 5 percent of the votes in a statewide election.[7] Following the primary election in September, a poll on October 20 showed Humphrey leading 35% to Coleman (34%) and Ventura (21%). But the Star Tribune poll suggested that Ventura's surge with the voters had come mostly at Humphrey's expense. Since the primary, Humphrey's support among likely voters had dropped by 14 percentage points, while Coleman's had increased by 5 percentage points.[8] Edited August 13, 2015 by bonnie Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make.
