Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted October 3, 2015 Moderators Posted October 3, 2015 The Oregon Conference and North Pacific Union Conference church family of members extend our prayers on behalf of all those personally impacted by the tragic events on Thursday, October 1, at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.Christian Martin, Grants Pass (Oregon) Adventist Church pastor, reports additional sad news, confirmed today by Douglas County authorities. Sarena Moore, one of his church members, was among those killed by the gunman. She was 44. It’s been reported that one of Sarena’s last posts on Facebook was an affirmation of her desire to stand up for Jesus and Christianity. We urge all Northwest members to pray specifically for the Grants Pass Church and Sarena’s extended family as well as our Roseburg area churches. Please continue to pray for all the students and families impacted along with the first responders and medical personnel.. . . GayatfootofCross 1 Quote Gregory
Aliensanctuary Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 We know that the Forces of Darkness drive these mass murderers into killing good people, some of whom refuse to deny that they are Christians. As the principles of Christian religion are increasingly rejected and demonic influences spread, we will long for the days when only 5 or 10 are murdered in cold blood. LifeHiscost Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/oregon-shooting-gunman-chris-harper-6558948 How many of us are going to be facing the same mental test of faith in the soon coming events of prophetic time? 17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.....Revelation 12 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshiped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.....Revelation 20 Shabbat Shalom! CoAspen Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Has anyone really looked at the facts of the event or the reasons? There seems to be some jumping to conclusions. Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted October 3, 2015 Members Posted October 3, 2015 it apparently wasn't a case of specifically targeting Christians... and we might never know the shooter's real motives... http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2015/10/gunman_in_oregon_college_shoot.html Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted October 3, 2015 Administrators Posted October 3, 2015 I also heard a report that it was perhaps less about targeting Christians in the sense of hating Christians or persecution of Christians and more of a forcing them to meet their maker. He apparently said something to the effect of they would see their God soon just before he fatally shot them. In a perverse sense it almost seemed that those without a belief in God we intentionally wounded as if to give them more time to get religion. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Administrators debbym Posted October 4, 2015 Administrators Posted October 4, 2015 Tom, i had the same idea as i read the report on how he asked them if they were Christian. The test was still ...will you acknowledge if you are a Christian if you will die for it, even if it was a perverse situation of a mentally challenged person and not persecution for your faith. Quote deb Love awakens love. Let God be true and every man a liar.
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted October 4, 2015 Administrators Posted October 4, 2015 Certainly it was for those individuals. We all are tested at on time or another in varying degrees to acknowledge and stand firm for our faith without regard to negative person consequences we might face. Sadly many deny their faith in the face of far less sever and fatal consequences, even in the face of embarrassment, ackwardness or moment arty inconvenience. "For I am not ashamed..." But we need to be cautious about interpreting the situation by ascribing a hate crime motive to the killer. He is dead. And the twisted thinking of a seemingly irrational and disturbed person cannot be fairly described as intentional pesecution of only Christians. More convincing would be discovering that he had previously expressed specifically anti-Christian ideas and hatred toward only Christians specifically. Moderators Bravus Posted October 4, 2015 Moderators Posted October 4, 2015 The temptation to immediately project our own obsessions onto a tragedy of this kind is very strong, and I admit to being tempted, but I'm going to resist. Let's resist the mythmaking on all sides and wait for some clarity and evidence. It seems to me as though taking advantage of a tragedy of this kind to bolster *any* personal, political or religious point is disrespectful. phkrause, Tom Wetmore and CoAspen 3 Quote Truth is important
