Wow, do I ever feel smart. The Treaty of Versailles ended WW1. It took effect January 10, 1920.

Most people would probably remember WW1 as finishing 11.11.18, I guess that is why Graeme asked the question. We learn something each day.

It really shows the folly of man. The Bible predicted that wars would continue until the end of time. Man thought they could end war.

Oh, you had me going there. We thought you meant that the war had actually ended in 1920--you meant the signing of the League of Nations. Okay, now I get it.

The treaty went into effect January 10, 1920. That is when the war officially ended.

Contrast that to the Korean War, which just a cease-fire. Thus the Korean War has never officially ended. Which is why the DMZ is still patrolled.

However the treaty placed a "war guilt" on Germany and fined them a kazillion dollars which drove them into an economic depression and fueled the train Hitler was driving. Had the treaty been fair, WW2 may have been avoided. Many historians see WW2 as just an extension of WW1.
