Members phkrause Posted November 7, 2015 Members Posted November 7, 2015 The CJB puts it this way: and a slave of the Lord shouldn't fight. On the contrary, he should be kind to everyone, a good teacher, and not resentful when mistreated. Administrators Gail Posted November 7, 2015 Administrators Posted November 7, 2015 It's a great verse except that so close after reading Maxwell's Servants and Friends and now Servant God (found for free audio at godscharacter.com) I like to stretch that bigger to view those who love God as friends while quoting Jesus in John 15:15 If we behaved thus while viewing ourselves as His servants (which we are also), how MUCH MORE (quoting Paul now cause he says that a lot in Romans) will we change to be like God when we find ourselves God's friends? Stan 1 Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted November 8, 2015 Administrators Posted November 8, 2015 But whether you are slave or friend, I can't help but see that tying up with God is an improvement both for your own happiness and that of your relationships. Don't exhaust yourself with bickering- love it! Nice to see some appreciation for the Voice translation! Stan 1 Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Liz Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 This is definitely one of those "spirit willing but the body is weak" type of things. How can you not be resentful when being mistreated? How can you not be resentful when being mistreated? it is truly Supernatural! We are weak, Liz. And BTW hello! ... We as Christians have had this supernatural seed put inside our hearts already. It grows as it is hydrated with the Water of Life! easier said than done Sometimes my heart is dry as the Hills of Gilboa! "God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. Math 5:11 “Blessed are the meek.” The difficulties we have to encounter may be very much lessened by that meekness which hides itself in Christ. If we possess the humility of our Master, we shall rise above the slights, the rebuffs, the annoyances, to which we are daily exposed, and they will cease to cast a gloom over the spirit. The highest evidence of nobility in a Christian is self-control. He who under abuse or cruelty fails to maintain a calm and trustful spirit robs God of His right to reveal in him His own perfection of character. Lowliness of heart is the strength that gives victory to the followers of Christ; it is the token of their connection with the courts above. DA 301.3 ...................................................................................................................................... we battle not with flesh and blood... Jesus calls us to love on and bless and serve the enemy of our politics and church and theology and morals and family and self and reputation and nation. Everybody we encounter is God's child. A candidate for heaven. And they need to see Jesus in us. It is a tall order! it is Supernatural.
