Neil D Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 [:"blue"] This was sent to me and I thought I would share it. It is a christian group opposing Judge Alito and they give thier reasons why. [/] If you listen to the prolific number of news stories out there, Alito is all but a shoo-in and all the American public has left to do is sit on their hands and turn blue in the face. Two groups in particular are turning a royal shade of blue: women and gays and lesbians. After the confirmation hearings, we know that, given the opportunity, Alito will likely vote to repeal Roe v. Wade. We also know that when questioned about discrimination against gays and lesbians, Alito reluctantly stated that he "can't think of a reason why" Congress could not outlaw employment discrimination against this group. This lackluster vote of support is a sound of alarm for hard-working gays and lesbians everywhere. Here at the Christian Alliance for Progress, we wanted to take a moment to share with you where we stand. The Christian Alliance for Progress has at its heart at least two values that are directly at peril as we face Alito's nomination: Equality for Gays and Lesbians and Effective Prevention vs. Criminalization of Abortion. These values are just the most obvious. Here at CAfP, we stand for a return to what we believe the true gospel values of Jesus are: compassion and equality for all. We stand in respectful opposition to the appointment of a man who belittles these values and vow to become even more active this year in the political landscape. What can you do? Send a letter to you senator opposing his nomination . But let’s not stop there. This likely nomination gives merit to ring a wake-up bell that will energize us to be alert where it counts: the mid-term elections coming up this year. Alito could be placed on the highest court for life. He will likely influence the American judicial landscape for the next 40 years or so. Why is he there? Because the American public has continued to elect and place into power individuals who support an uber-conservative stance and who place into peril some of the hard-won rights that we have been taking for granted: The "right-to-choose" and the long battle to equality that gays and lesbians have been fighting for decades. We are blind to the erosion that has been taking place right before our eyes. As we come upon the mid-term elections this year, we are left with a choice: either complain about the downward spiral things have been taking or GROW A LOUD VOICE in time for the upcoming elections. Get involved on a local level. Start in your neighborhood, where all good things take seed. Influence others kindly and respectfully. But do not take this sitting down. What are your thoughts?
