The Christians - The Play

I went to the theater in Los Angeles to see the play The Christians.  I had read articles in the LATimes about it and from what I read I thought that the authors of the play may have come in contact with an Adventist.

The preacher of a large mega evangelical church has heard a story told by a missionary about a little boy in India that lost his life saving his little sister from a fire.  The missionary says something like this: "What a brave good little boy,  Isn't it terrible

that he is going to hell and not to heaven!"   This causes the preacher to ponder and worry about this to the point that he gets a strong feeling that God is speaking to him through those feelings. 

He believes that God tells him that there is no hell. That there is no Satan.  

He preaches a sermon about this and says that this will now be the belief that the church must accept.  He looses some people.  But it is when a young divorced mother with a son to raise starts asking questions such as... "What about evil people like Hitler"? 

And after he thinks a bit...he says, "Hitler is in heaven".  Well the audience gasped.  Me too.

I realized that it wasn't an Adventist the authors met that influenced them...but some sort of New Age stuff.  No sin, no Satan, all go to heaven. 

The preacher loses nearly everything...almost his wife. 

I will say it would be thought provoking for many.  It was only disturbing to me that even the idea of a Hitler in heaven could even be suggested in a play.
