Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 23, 2016 Members Posted January 23, 2016 Clean vs Unclean — For me, those terms generally refer currently to food items. Unclean = pork, shellfish, catfish (scavenger fish), etc. Clean = beef, chicken, fish. Weren't the "clean" vs "unclean" laws of the Bible there to protect the people against diseases? I would have an issue with the Biblical injunction of referring to people with contagious diseases as being "unclean" in this day and age. "Holy" vs "Unholy" — I know the common definition of holy would be something dedicated to God. But I don't think that's accurate. Too many things that were originally dedicated to God have been adulterated, and would no longer be "holy"... are church buildings holy? I don't think so. What about a Holy Bible? Is the book itself holy, or is it the meaning we give the words in our minds the thing that's holy? I dunno. I'll be interested to see what thoughts others might have. Great topic! 8thdaypriest Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Looking thru the Torah, there was a system of common, clean, cleaner, cleanest. The words were used to express nearness to Yahweh. Look at all of the cleansing ceremony the priests had to go thru before they could enter "the tent". Before Israel met with Yahweh, at Mt Sinai, they were to "cleanse" themselves and their garments. The LORD told Peter not to call any man "common" or "unclean". If a person belongs to God, thru Christ, then that person is "clean". Quote 8thdaypriest

Administrators Gail Posted January 24, 2016 Author Administrators Posted January 24, 2016 Knowing the difference between the clean and unclean (which applied also to homes and I believe clothing) as it relates to health is one reasoning I can grasp easily as a rational human. But I have often wondered if there are parts to clean/unclean that are a mystery, for reasons belonging to God alone, that we need to trust not knowing exactly why.
