Stan Posted January 24, 2016 Author Posted January 24, 2016 A sample of the reason why we are transitioning to using real names here. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted January 24, 2016 Administrators Posted January 24, 2016 I agree. I think he has a very valid point. Naomi 1 Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 24, 2016 Members Posted January 24, 2016 Anonymity can bring out the worst in people who have forgotten (or never learned) the social graces of courtesy and respect. Naomi, AliAgins, GayatfootofCross and 1 other 4 Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
aka Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 May I suggest two possible options? 1. The Admins add to the sign-up page for newbies that their display name needs to be their real 'birth-certificate' valid birth name. Or just their 'real' first name as public display name. 2. On same mentioned page, tell newbies that any wicked comments posted with threats, insults and graphical evil will be reported to their Internet Provider. The result of which will cause close down of their account with that IP service. Each log-in to this web site records the user's ip number in a list. (provided one isn't using a proxy). Stan 1 Quote
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted January 30, 2016 Moderators Posted January 30, 2016 The real name may be a common law name, which is what one is known by in society. One's legal name may be the name on the Birth Certificate, but in many cases that is not the name by which one is known. The name on my birth certificate in not the name by which I am known in society. Stan and AliAgins 2 Quote Gregory
Outta Here Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Still, there are certain subjects I will NEVER speak about when using my "real name". I choose to use a pen-name here at ClubAdventist and other places online because I want to speak freely and honestly--without having to hide my true thoughts. I maintain that a person can be respectful of others, avoid rude comments and a harsh tongue--even while using a pseudonym. aka, Stan and AliAgins 3 Quote
