Paul: Another view

n the last year or so one of the things I have been really getting into is hermeneutics, biblical interpretation for those who dont know, and one of the things that really struck me was the amount of flak that Paul comes in for.

Now firstly one of the issues I found is that the NT epistles are recorded in terms of size of the letter rather than the chronological order they were written in. If it were written chronologically many scholars suggest it would read as follows

Thessalonians

Corinthians

Galatians

Romans

Philippians

Philemon

Colossians

Ephesians

1 Timothy

Titus

2 Timothy

Looking at the books there is a progression of thought starting with the second coming (parousia),doctrine, warnings and encouragement and then pastoral teachings.

I wonder if as well as recognising

a) the audience to whom these letters were written

B) the co authorship of Timothy and others either in most letters

c) the context of the letters and

d) the marked progression of Paul's understanding and spiritual growth

whether people would have as much problem harmonising such epistles with the gospels and the other epistles?

Food for thought.
