President Obama Announces His Nomination

. . .  I'm nominating someone to be our new Librarian of Congress -- the leader of one of our nation's oldest federal institutions -- and I want to introduce you to her.

Meet Dr. Carla Hayden.

Michelle and I have known Dr. Hayden for a long time since her days working at the Chicago Public Library, and her dedication to learning and education is unparalleled.

More recently, she's devoted her career to modernizing libraries so that everyone can participate in today's digital culture. She's been hard at work revitalizing Baltimore’s library system as the CEO of Enoch Pratt Free Library, updating its technology and raising money to fund essential improvements. Under her leadership, the Pratt library has become the largest provider of public-access computers in Maryland.

As Librarian of Congress, she'll work in close partnership with Congress, support the copyright office that serves our nation’s creative communities, and explore new ways to share the information housed within our library through innovative technologies.

And I know she'll be a good steward for the important role that libraries play in our communities. Last year, during the unrest in Baltimore, Dr. Hayden and the library’s staff kept the doors of the Pratt open as a beacon for the community.

Finally, she'd be the first woman and the first African American to hold the position -- both of which are long overdue.

So I hope you'll take a couple minutes to watch this video and meet Carla for yourself.

I have no doubt she'll make a fantastic Librarian of Congress.

"But news leaked that Obama was vetting Brian Sandoval, a Republican governor of Nevada, for the job. This was troubling news because while Sandoval is an experienced judge and a moderate on issues like abortion and healthcare, he was not anyone a Democrat would have wanted on the court. Thankfully for Democrats, Sandoval withdrew his name from consideration on Thursday."

As I understand Scripture,

the person Obama appoints to the high court will facilitate endtime events

that have been long foretold and are appointed for our time. 

So it will be more than interesting to see who gets thrust into the office.

Obama is nominating Judge Merrick Garland to Supreme Court

Some comments I've seen show concern that, if Garland is confirmed, there will be no Protestant members of the Supreme Court...  There would be five Catholic and four Jewish justices.  (I'm not seeing that as a problem at this point, especially since Scalia was Catholic and there were no Protestants on the Court since 2010.)

Judge Garland has a good reputation, but I'll wait until the confirmation hearings to see what his positions are on issues before I form a final opinion...

(I keep seeing "Judy Garland" whenever I see "Judge Garland" written in print...)

With politics as they are these days,

I would not be surprised if the Republican refusal to seat a justice had an unintended backlash.

If the president were to abruptly withdraw this nomination during the Senate's recess in this election year

and then make a recess appointment, the new justice would be seated and functioning before the Senate knew what hit them.

Eisenhower used that tactic to fill a vacancy.

And Obama is very skilled on circumventing the Constitution.

This will be interesting when all is said and done

Obama is actually bending over backward to compromise: among other things, Judge Garland is 63, while there are numerous potential candidates in their 50s. He is likely to have a shorter tenure (it's slightly macabre to discuss), giving the opportunity to appoint another justice sooner. He is also quite centrist and has a lot of Republican supporters.

If the Republicans are opposing him, it seems to be solely on the grounds that Obama is proposing him.

You are obviously correct.

But Bible prophecy is working out behind the scenes.

And when thing get moving. It will be so rapid that you'll  scarcely be able to keep up never mind catch up. 

But Laodicea will be Laodicea. The Laodiceans think that Christ's message to the Laodiceans is for everybody except themselves.

The Laodiceans forget that the other angel is to sound at the appointed time.

The Laodiceans have the Sabbath, Bible, Spirit of Prophecy, and the whole 9-yards and they do not need anybody to tell them anything.

So when pearls of great value are cast before the Laodiceans that could bring them blessings: they leave them lay or tread them into the ground.  

And the pearls stop coming until the famine comes, not for bread but for the word of God.

It is coming
