Actually it's smoother and softer than velvet. He is a very sweet dog, and loves people. But enough of bragging on my dog...i'm just glad I found him.

Chocolate and Pit? That's a recipe for .........HYPER!!!  Labs seem to start settling down about 3 or 4. Don't know about PB's? Good luck with that anyhow. Does he have a free run when you're not home? How old was Mr. Murphy? How many dogs have you had in the past 30 years? Hope you're doing well.

Hi Doug, good to hear from you! Mr. Murphy was 11....Mikey will have free run soon, after being fixed and underground fence installed. My neighbor owns his best friend, Callie, a black lab, and is putting in the fence around both our properties so they can play and be together. And 4 dogs....7 if you count girlfriends' dogs. Hope you are doing well also my friend.

That will be about 5 acres fenced in btw.

He's big, Richard, but my 5 lb'er thinks he can intimidate him and push him around.  Of course he is a little delusional but I've seen him take on 80-100 lbers and convice them he's bigger and tougher than they are.  It makes me wonder how he is able to project so much power to other dogs.  Scares me half to death to have him get away from and do it.  Thet say its not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.  If true, he must have a couple of hundred pounds of fight in him. 

I tell him he's my "imperialistic running dog" as he will run for a couple of miles at a time, literally, when I take out for exercise.

Sorry, I don't have any pictures of him, nor do I have a digital camera anymore. 

I think he's great, but then I'm more than a little prejudiced in his favor.  I've had a few really smart dogs but this little guy takes the cake.  His vocabulary of words he understands is the largest I've ever seen.  Some of it is deliberately taught, but a fair amount of it is his putting words together with ideas or object all  on his own.  I'll be talking to my wife about something and he will react just as if I've been talking to him.  And he is reacting to words I've never even thought of teaching him what they mean.  I'd say a very conservative estimate of his vocabulary is 70-80 words.  His vocabulary is probably as large as it is because I've been disabled since before I got him and we've spent 24/7 together since he was 8 weeks old.  I've always talked to him a lot too.  Truth be told, I talk more to my dog than to my wife, but then she's gone 10 hours a day and he's always there. 

He's the only little dog I've ever had and I'd swear he is half cat.  When I let him out in the morning to do his thing he will scoop out a little hole in the soil and then lift his leg and pee in it.  He's just as careful when he takes a dump too.  He uses the field across the fence or he goes under the shrubbery.  He's done it since he was house-trained and I've never had to show him, nor has he had another dog to copy.  He's just an amazingly clean little dog. 

Most non-neutered males are not as affectionate as he is either.  If I'm sitting down he's either lying on my lap or lying beside me.  Even if there are big doings in the house he's content stay with me and just observe.  He sleeps with me too.  When I get ready to go to bed at night I'll say, let's go to bed, and he'll jump down off my lap and trot into the bedroom.  Then he'll stand there until I lift him up onto the bed, and when I lay down he actually throws himself against me when he lays down.  I guess he figures if he throws himself against me really hard he's getting closer to me than if he just curls up beside me. 

He is funny.  He'll be sitting beside me or sprawled out on my thigh and he'll lean his head back, lay it on my stomach, and just gaze into my eyes for minutes at a time.  He'll do the same thing when we're in the car drving down the road.  If we stop somewhere he'll curl up on my left shoulder and then once every few minutes lean over and give my ear lobe a few licks just to let me know he's thinking about me.

That's a neat dog...Mikey is very affectionate too, and does the same thing when we go to bed. He throws himself up against me, usually knocking some the air out of me. lol
