Dr. Shane Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 In politics there seems to be a lot of rancor and bitterness. Does this also exist among Christian brothers and sisters that disagree on political issues? Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Moderators Bravus Posted February 1, 2006 Moderators Posted February 1, 2006 I think we have a pretty decent example going on here. There are brothers and sisters (mostly brothers, for some reason <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />) with whom I disagree passionately on political matters, and who disagree vociferously with me, but whom I nonetheless love and really enjoy talking with. Sure, sometimes I get angry and occasionally I say things I wish I hadn't. But who said emotions are bad and we have to be all emotionally numb to be able to talk? The passion makes the conversation worthwhile. I really hope I don't hurt others in the grip of that passion, and I'm always trying to learn how to discuss this stuff in more tolerant ways (and to actually challenge my own beliefs with the perspectives I hear), but I think also maybe some of the 'bitterness and rancor' we perceive is an artefact of this text-only medium, and if we could get sat down around a veggie potluck and have a chat we'd get on a lot better, while still being ourselves and disagreeing about many things. Neil D Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Quote: Sure, sometimes I get angry and occasionally I say things I wish I hadn't. Same here...That is why I am attempting to be more comprimising..agreeing where I can agree...This country is too polorized and will either have impass or tear itself apart if there were no compromising. Clio Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 Politics are a human construct to a large degree. Their time and place in the scheme of things is ending. It is not much longer and any political support will be supporting the beast and false prophet. While in the past they have been used by Abba according to His plan and perfect pleasure, and will continue to be used so until the end of time, soon, they will be for true believers, simply a distraction from the important events that will be and have already begun to occur. Clio Quote A heart where He alone has first place.
