Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted March 18, 2016 Moderators Posted March 18, 2016 The men’s basketball team from Washington Adventist University (WAU) lost to Briar Cliff University (BCU) in the opening round of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics tournament last Thursday (March 10) in a game on the Briar Cliff campus in Sioux City, Iowa. The final score was 81 to 61. BCU is a Catholic school run by Franciscan priests and WAU is an Adventist institution run by the denomination’s Columbia Union Conference in the suburbs of the United States national capital. Although denominational policy discourages it, many Adventist schools at both the secondary and higher education levels participate in inter-campus athletics in the U.S. and other countries. NOTE: My source for the above was Adventist Today. Quote Gregory
Green Cochoa Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 If in our schools the land were more faithfully cultivated, the buildings more disinterestedly cared for by the students, the love of sports and amusements, which causes so much perplexity in our schoolwork, would pass away. {CT 312.1} NOTE: My source for the above was Ellen White, a charter member of the Adventist Church. Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted March 18, 2016 Moderators Posted March 18, 2016 My source for SDA inter-campus basketball is my own two granddaughters. They played basketball on various campuses both in academy and in college. They're both great athletes [and also accomplished violinists and pianists]. The challenge has been good for them, physically and spiritually. They acknowledge God in their lives faithfully, daily. And I think their coaches do too. phkrause and williamramirez 2 Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....

Your post says that it doesn't matter where you go to school or how much you pay for it. The main thing is the desire and desire to achieve your goal. phkrause 1 Quote

Work in an emergency room for a while. Count the number of people who come in with injuries received while walking and those who come in with injuries related to contact sports. Of course, it depends on where one walks. There are probably places where walking outside, especially at certain times or in certain areas, is more dangerous than a pick up basketball game. Like so many things, context is important. Quote

I didn't work in an emergency room, but worked as a medic in the military and we didn't have one injury from contact sports!! Most if not all were do to everything you can think of except sports, and I didn't even work in a combat zone!!!!!
