Not exactly a pro-Cruz article. To promote Christian values, that is, the teachings of Christ, would be a noble cause in a nation in decline.

I don't see much in that article about Cruz's theology so both the article and the title of this thread are misleading. 

I don't see how Cruz's desire to return this nation to it's Judeo-Christian roots is a negative.  If you people will actually read some real history and the writings of the founders of this nation you will see the founders truly believed in God.  You would also find out that many of them that are portrayed as secularists actually lived by Christian principles and regularly invited God into their political meetings.  

What follows is something Ben Franklin said at the Constitutional Convention when it looked like the process was going to break down and all the colonies splinter into nothing more than individual states.

And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings that "except the Lord build they labor in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall be become a reproach and a bye word down to future age. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments by Human Wisdom, and leave it to chance, war, and conquest.

I therefore beg leave to move -- that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the Clergy of this City be requested to officiate in that service.

 

There is Ben Franklin acknowledging God's hand in the creation of this country and acknowledging the need of it's leadership for God's input and leading.  In today's politics the Democrats, including the Democrats on this site, would crucify him for desiring God's blessing and leadership.  The screams of "separation of church and state" would be deafening....  

The lack of understanding of how our founders thought and what they meant by the things they said is frightening because when we forget/abandon our history we have no idea as to who we are and where we should be going.

Also, Thomas Jefferson, the author of the famous wall between church and state started a non-denominational church that met in the building that housed the House of Representatives.  That church existed throughout his administration and the administration of James Madison who followed him as President. 

When Jefferson wrote his famous letter he wrote it while attending church in a state building.  What does that say about his beliefs on separation of church and state, and Madison's?  It says they opposed the state forcing people to worship one way or another.  They would turn over in their graves to see how what they said and thought has been perverted into something they never imagined.

Seems like the original intent of our Founding Fathers was to prevent the creation of a national church that dictated the laws of the land and ran or controlled the government, as happens in un-free countries, Iran, for example. In religion-controlled government, dissent or different religious beliefs tend to be not tolerated, resulting in persecution and abuse of basic human rights. I don't believe the Founding Fathers intended to ban all religious expression or the practice of Christian principles by individuals as long as their practices did not conflict with the safety or well-being of others. 

We all pay the price for the removal of the moral code that once guided our nation. With no guidance from our Creator, the whole world is being sucked down into the vortex of rebellion, and ultimately, destruction.

Ted Cruz's personal religious beliefs are his own business and not the press's business to pick apart in order to diminish him.
