What is "the temple of God" that the "man of sin" sits in?

Perhaps we should look into some clues: 

Revelation 11:19 says "In heaven the temple of God was opened and the Ark of His covenant could be seen inside the Temple."

Dan 8:11 He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the daily was taken away, and the place of His sanctuary (the temple of God) was cast down.

The Man of Sin is the Papacy. His temple is in Rome. One of the names of blasphemy that is appropriated is "the holy father".

You should be looking at Daniel 7, the western part of the Roman Empire, mainly religious when it is speaking of the little horn of the fourth beast, rather than looking at Daniel 8, the eastern part of the Roman Empire, speaking mainly of the military aspect.

That is a view.  Another view is that the man of sin is the AntiChrist (possibly the papacy; but probably not); and the Temple of God could be a 3rd Temple to be built in Jerusalem during the time of the end (70th week of Daniel).  I know this doesn't "mesh" with EGW; but it meshes with a literal translation of the Word.

I'm not a fan of the Papacy, but to be fair to the context it says " he (the man of sin) takes his seat in the temple of God".  

While St. Peter Basilica is magnificent it is not "God's temple".  Neither is Paul speaking about our bodies being the temple of God (see 1 Cor 6:19) in the context of  2 Thess 2:4.  

So "the man of sin" either literally sits in God's temple (which is in heaven) or he sits figuratively in God's temple.

... or he sits in a 3rd Jerusalem Temple (let's call it the Tribulation Temple) during the 1260 days ...  I sincerely doubt that the "man" (not spirit) of sin will sit in the Temple in heaven.  Nobody ever sits there but God.  If you want to get technical, I guess Jesus (who is God) is also a man; and He can sit there.

No, this temple is in heaven.  It is nothing man erected.  Therefore "the man of sin" figuratively sits in the temple of God.

The "man of sin":

1] Exalts himself.

 We saw this in  Dan 8:11: "He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host (Christ)"

2] He figuratively takes the place of Christ in His temple.

Q1: What is Christ, our Great High Priest doing in heaven, now?

Answer:

Let me quote Ellen White then I'll get it from the Bible, the final authority:

"Jesus stands in the holy of holies (God's temple), now to appear in the presence of God for us. There He ceases not to present His people moment by moment, complete in Himself."

Now the Bible:

Heb 10:19 "Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus (i.e., His life laid down in death), 20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh...." 

Through the humanity of Christ we have been perfected. In Him we stand complete (Col 1:22).  

Apparently "the man of sin" believes that he can forgive sin.  Apparently he believes that he is Christ's substitute on earth.
