Imagine what it is like living here in the Detroit suburbs. The whole region has gone nuts. They have a "Winter Blast" fair going on downtown on Woodward Avenue, and special Superbowl Parties as far out as Pontiac. A predicted 6-8 inches of snow did not happen--it turned out the temperatures remained a couple of degrees higher than expected, and all but about an inch or so melted. Fine with me, so I didn't have to shovel our circular driveway.

The Steelers will likely feel like they are playing a home game, since virtually everyone in the Detroit area is rooting for the Steelers, because several of their players are home-grown Detroiters (especially "the bus" Bettis, who was given the key to the city). Also Pittsburgh is within driving distance of Detroit, while Seattle is clear over on the other side of the country.

I think the key to winning in football is not making mistakes. Seattle turned over the ball and got sacked too much. A team just can't win when they make so many mistakes.

Seattle had the better regular season didn't they? I believe they had a better record than the Stealers did. I think it was just the mistakes that kept the fairytale from coming true for them.

Well, at least they made it there. Now I can buy a Seahawks hardhat.

Shane, the Steelers made some serious errors too--like when they were driving for a touchdown inside the Seakawks' ten yard line, and the Steeler QB threw an interception because he threw the ball short; if he had not underthrown the ball, it would have been a Steeler touchdown, because the reciever he was throwing to was wide open in the end zone. Seattle ran that ball back into the Pittsburg red zone, and then they scored a touchdown that never would have been if not for that interceoption on what should have been a Steeler touchdown. But despite that, the Steelers wound up winning by 11 points.

I thought it was a good game, far better officiated than some football games have been recently. And the replay worked; what had been called as a Seahawk fumble that the Steelers recovered, was reversed on the replay--and everyone at home could see that a Steelers player did make contact with the Seahawk QB before he hit the ground and the ball.popped out loose. So Seattle got some breaks too.

Sorry Nicodema, but fans will still be discussing the Superbowl for some time. So you're not entirely free yet!

I'm just glad there were no terrorist incidents. One of the sportswriters in the Oakland Press said he had a friend who said they should watch the game from Lansing--that way, if there were a nuclear blast (a la The Sum of All Fears,) they would be out of the fallout zone. The Detroit TV news reported that over 10,000 security people were on hand, representing over 100 agencies local, state, and federal.

Oh yes--one other thing. The Superbowl commercials were not all that great this time. I thought the best was the Hummer 3 commercial, where a Godzilla-like monster and a giant robot meet while trampling down some city, fall in love, the monster gets pregnant, and gives birth to a Hummer 3. Only thing was, the commercial has been on the air before; it wasn't new for the Superbowl, so it doesn't really count.
