I find the notion of a US-wide Sunday Law reasonably plausible, particularly if someone like Ted Cruz is elected, but a global Sunday Law stretches my credulity beyond the breaking point.

Any views on which is predicted? And, perhaps, why I in Australia should be concerned if it's a US-only test of faith?

I predict there will never be a National or Global Sunday Law; and even if there were to be one, a national Sunday Law would not prohibit us from keeping the Sabbath.  A mandatory 6-day work week (Monday though Saturday); or a law against worshipping on Sabbath would be a problem.

We've just seen glaring examples of the prowess of money.. Through the NRA (USA) and currently the latest declared as even more powerful then the NRA, as the GAYS.. (among others from that bathroom court case about transgenders). So it's plausible with the power of money and furthered with human self-damning insensitivity to the Holy Spirit that yes Sunday Law can happen.. But for it to happen simultaneously on a world scale, i don't think so ahh.. Just like this gay movement that took time over the years to pick up pace and crawl-affect some countries one after another..

Test me with thy might but grant me safe passage. Now, who said that?

It's also plausible that with the power, numbers, passion, and militancy of Islamists that there may one day be Friday Laws.

Germany and Croatia already have a Sunday Law.  Seems I read sometime back that the previous Pope tried to lobby the EU for an EU wide Sunday Law but was rebuffed.  As I understand it, the last I heard was that signatures were being

collected among EU members to try to pass a Sunday Law in the EU again. It is easier to see the possibility of a global Sunday Law among industrialized nations with Christian heritage than  pagan or nations that have no strong Christian

influence.

In a "Christian country" a Sunday law would make since as a test of faith. Not so much in a Muslim country where the divinity of Christ would be more appropriate. But a national Sunday law in a Muslim country could make the divinity of Christ an issue to those who never thought about it.

I'll just be glad when it's all over:

Soon there appears in the east a small black cloud, about half the size of a man's hand. It is the cloud which surrounds the Saviour and which seems in the distance to be shrouded in darkness. The people of God know this to be the sign of the Son of man. In solemn silence they gaze upon it as it draws nearer the earth, becoming lighter and more glorious, until it is a great white cloud, its base a glory like consuming fire, and above it the rainbow of the covenant. Jesus rides forth as a mighty conqueror. Not now a "Man of Sorrows," to drink the bitter cup of shame and woe, He comes, victor in heaven and earth, to judge the living and the dead. "Faithful and True," "in righteousness He doth judge and make war." And "the armies which were in heaven" (Revelation 19:11, 14) follow Him. With anthems of celestial melody the holy angels, a vast, unnumbered throng, attend Him on His way. The firmament seems filled with radiant forms--"ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands." No human pen can portray the scene; no mortal mind is adequate to conceive its splendor. "His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of His praise. And His brightness was as the light." Habakkuk 3:3,4. As the living cloud comes still nearer, every eye beholds the Prince of life. No crown of thorns now mars that sacred head; but a diadem of glory rests on His holy brow. His countenance outshines the dazzling brightness of the noonday sun. "And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, King of kings, and Lord of lords." Revelation 19:16.

Before His presence "all faces are turned into paleness;" upon the rejecters of God's mercy falls the terror of eternal despair. "The heart melteth, and the knees smite together, . . . and the faces of them all gather blackness." Jeremiah 30:6; Nahum 2:10. The righteous cry with trembling: "Who shall be able to stand?" The angels' song is hushed, and there is a period of awful silence. Then the voice of Jesus is heard, saying: "My grace is sufficient for you." The faces of the righteous are lighted up, and joy fills every heart. And the angels strike a note higher and sing again as they draw still nearer to the earth. [GC 640,641]

The US has had Sunday laws in the past - but at the state level rather than the federal level. To the citizen it doesn't matter if your state government is oppressing you or if it is the federal government, but for some reason, certain SdA thinkers placed great importance on which level of government would have to impose the law - for them only federal action would fulfill the prophecy.

As for Ted Cruz, based on his constitutionalist views, he would adamantly oppose any federal action with respect to a day of rest or mandatory worship. He'd be less opposed to individual states taking such action.

Yes, but there are 2 parts to the 4th commandment (a) keep the Sabbath; and (b) labour for six days. One cannot keep the whole 4th commandment without labouring on Sunday.

I don't see anything in the 4th commandment that "requires" me to work 6 days per week.   If working 6 days a week is a "requirement", there are a lot of disabled and/or retired folks that are going to hell.

A National Sunday Law would not necessarily require you to abstain from all labor on Sunday.  It may close stores; but that doesn't stop people from doing other "labor".

A more well rounded  description of the vicissitudes prevailing at the time we shall be choosing which commander we will be following for the best and I might say, the only future, is found in a book by Herbert Edgar Douglass, entitled Dramatic Prophecies of Ellen White, Stories of World Events Divinely Foretold. Since much of the world, in politics anyway, is strongly motivated toward a new world order as ordered by human prerogatives, it does not seem strange to envision all the world, "wondering after the beast".

I had learned the old Louis Segond version which reads "Tu travailleras six jours" (you will/shall work six days). The English KJV reads "six days shalt thou labour". To me this seems to preclude the idea of Sunday as a day of rest following the Sabbath rest (many SdAs I know have their sabbaths filled with so many activities that Sunday is the day to rest from the Sabbath). I agree that "labour" doesn't require one to be at one's regular job on Sunday - there is plenty of work to do elsewhere, and can usually be done without running afoul of any laws. Many municipalities in my area forbid lawn-mowing on Sunday. This local by-law has never bothered me.

As for what constitutes "work", that has to be understood (I would think) within the context of a modern economy and one's personal situation. "Work" is very different for a child, a student, a writer, a bricklayer, a retiree, a disabled person, etc.

There's also another sub-part to the 4th commandment - "six days shalt thou labour and do all thy work". I have often managed to rest on Sabbath and keep the day holy (as I understand the concepts of "rest" and "holy"); I have often managed to labour six days; I have never ever managed to have "done all my work" by sunset Friday.

God never said "Thou shalt not think".
