Is It News, Or Is Is It False?

There is a game on Public Radio where contestants are given three alleged news stories and asked to pick out the one that is true. Can you determine which of the following are true and which are false.  NOTE:  All may be true and all may be false.

1)  The FDA is considering approval of a new contact lens, named Sensimed Triggerfish, which records the internal pressure in the eye and when that record is read will help clinicians to monitor the progress of glaucoma.

2)  A Canadian study had determined that people who live below the 3rd floor of an apartment building are most likely to survive a heart attack and those who live above the 25th floor are highly unlikely to survive.

3) The JOURNAL OF CONSUMER MARKETING has published a series of studies which determined that if you photograph your meal prior to eating it you will more favorably evaluate the meal and find it to be tastier.

4) Over a 10-year period, the city of Richmond, California has reduced the murder rate in their city by paying people from $300 to $1,000 per month, for nine months,  to refrain from killing anyone and to participate in training is socialization while getting a GED and a drivers license.  This program reduced the murder rate by 77% over the 1-year period.

5)  The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power spent some $34,500,000 to dump some 96 million, 4 inch plastic balls into their reservoir in an attempt to reduce evaporation of the scarce water.  This cut the evaporation by some 300 million gallons of water a year and cost less than a suggested $300,000,000 floating cover.

6)  Carlos Torres Tovar has designed a prosthesis that will allow the person wearing it to build an attachment to the prosthesis from Legos.  Thus a child can attach an airplane, automobile, or whatever else to the prostheses.  In tests of this device children had received it well.  It has allowed other children to participate in building the attachment and in doing so become comfortable with it.

Is no one willing to even take a guess?

O. K. I will give you a hint:

# 2 is true.  Why?  Because of elevators.  People who live above the 25th floor generally have to wait longer due to elevator travel than do people who live below the 3rd floor.

Now we know  that at least one is true.  So, we cannot say that all are false. Are all of the rest false?  Are all of the rest true?  Are some of the rest true and some false.

# 1 is true.  It is currently on sale in  Europe and is awaiting FDA approval.

I'd guess they're all true. The only one that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me is paying people to not murder. Are they paying EVERYONE or only people they think are likely to murder?

As to # 4:  The city of Richmond identified the gang members whom they believed would be most likely to commit murder.  Based upon their evaluation of that person, they offered them a flat monthly sum of money for nine months.  During that time they would be required to participate in a program to socialize them which included things such as obtaining a GED, getting a legal drivers license, anger management, etc.  The idea was that during that period of time they would be prepared to participate in normal civil life and have employment skills that would make it possible for them to support themselves legally.

All six are true.

My source was several articles published in the May 2016 READER'S DIGEST.

I figured #4 was true, since it was on the news a while back.
