The crooked fork

Today I was remembering how my grandma would always take the neck piece when chicken was served. This is because back on the farm when she cooked up chicken everyone would help themselves to all the other parts first leaving the neck for her. She learned to like the neck piece and ended up preferring it.

When Hubby was young, his household had cheap flatware. There was one fork that bent when it was used for trying to pierce something. Russ often ended up with this utensil.

He asked once, "Why do I always get the bent fork?" His brother-in-law, who had driven from Cold Lake, Alberta from pilot training to North Bay, ON, for a visit, told him that he would trade him. He said that he LIKED bent forks and always wanted it from then on. This act of kindness was a great way to help smooth the hard feeling.

We were talking about things people to keep the peace. They were like little sacrifices of love.

My grandfather was like that, he'd eat the parts of the chicken, no one else would even thin of eating!! Nasty is all I could say!!
