was Judas pre ordained to betray Jesus?

I recently attended an Adventist womens retreat where this very question was bought up.

 

An interesting coversation followed, with many views. and it didnt get hostile at all.

 

some say he wasnt a true disciple so he was open to sin. Yet others said Christ already knew he would do it when he picked him.

I bought up, as did others- when he threw the coins back at the Pharisees, was that his act of repentance and relaisation he had done the wrong thing?

 

Did he understand what he had done before he committed suicide, or was his anguish too greatf or him to bear, thinking he would be a marked and haunted man?

If he was truly forgiven for betraying Jesus, and turned back towards God, will he be in Heaven- That was one question we could not answer.

 

What are your thoughts on this???

I thought it was a common teaching among Adventist circles that Judas was NOT repentant and therefor, unforgiven. (It's not what I believe, but it's what I've been taught.)

I don't believe Judas was preordained. (Just as I don't believe Jesus was preordained.) I believe he had a choice. I believe he was repentant and I believe he was forgiven. I believe he has a place in heaven.

Foreknowledge and predestination are two different things.
