Weird and wonderful salads

I am trying out a strawberry/spinach salad. Who knew that strawberries and crunchy red onion would go well together? (I guess the people who made up this salad...)

Hm...Is this your first time eating such a salad? I guess the red onion part does seem strange to me, though the strawberries and spinach not so much. Do you ever eat at Applebees? They had a delicious salad made with spinach, blueberries (and maybe strawberries, but I don't remember exactly) and praline pecans. It also had chicken, but I asked for the salad without. Wendy's has offered a similar salad with berries and cheese. Maybe they're still offering them or similar salads.

I have eaten at Applebees, but not in Canada. We don't have it up here

That makes sense. I think those salads that mix fruits and vegetables seem to be popular in The US.

You probably haven't ever had som tam. Have you? It's a spicy papaya salad that seems to be popular here in Thailand. I've had several opportunities to eat it, but only ate one that was made especially for me without the spicy aspect. It had papaya, tamrind, and some type of sweet and sour sauce. It was somewhat sweet and somewhat sour. They also have some nice salads that can be found at markets or roadside vendors that have lettuce, beans and other vegetables and jobs tears (which is a type of grain). I don't think the latter salads are weird, but the som tam definitely was, and yet it was tasty (I'm not up for trying it spicy yet though).
