Emotional abuse can be just as life threatening.  According to Focus on the Family  ( http://www.focusonthefamily.com/lifechallenges/abuse-and-addiction/understanding-emotional-abuse/faqs-about-emotional-abuse)   Emotional abuse is an ongoing pattern of behavior designed to control, manipulate and subjugate another. It's all about controlling someone else which is the same as physical abuse.  Yes you can see the bruises of physical violence but emotional violence can exact a toll.   How many are the instances of young people cyber-bullied into taking their own lives. It can also be seen as much of a sin as physically hurting someone. (Matt 5:21-22)
