tribeofjudah Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 I'm not a Bible scholar, so forgive. I'm stumped many times with Bible verses that "don't seem" to agree with today's standard procedures. Leviticus 13“ ‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads. Stoning in other versions........ same is true; death for incest, etc.......(there are many more verses) So..............we believe the Whole Bible, but just not these verses? God hates the SIN but..........Loves the sinner? It doesn't apply to us today in the USA? How do I answer kids in middle school or in my youth group? Sadly, sometimes I cannot answer effectively and I'm ashamed. The Koran has similar verses, and they are acted on and followed through by the Radicals (beheading, killing, and throwing homosexuals off the tops of tall buildings). So are the Muslims more adherent to their Koran than the Christians are to our Bible? Someone help me out --- (I must read more, I know, I know) Quote
Outta Here Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 See John 8:6. I think Christians are adherent, individually, based on their own understanding--we are in a country with freedom to believe as we choose--not as it's forced on us. I, personally, believe that Jesus teaches us to believe, repent and sin no more; and for others to forgive and offer forgiveness. Quote
Aliensanctuary Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Back in ancient Bible times decapitation was not unheard of, along with stoning or otherwise killing offenders for their transgressions. During the time of nation-building, rebellion could not be tolerated in Israel while the LORD was nearby. Despite that life-and-death strictness, there were the commandments to love the LORD and their neighbors. Apparently, the nation of Israel at that time was to establish itself in the land of milk and honey, then slowly expand its borders until the whole world served the LORD. Of course, that didn't happen. Fast forward to the time of Christ, who gives us another perspective on the Kingdom of YHVH. Although evil will ultimately be punished, not by men, but by the LORD, Christ taught that those who would follow him must be servants of the LORD, and servants of mankind. Self-sacrifice for the good of others is one of the most important laws of the Kingdom. Because we would make many mistakes by killing people for their transgressions, and because we would all likely be hypocrites in throwing the first stone, we can leave the decapitations, the stonings, and the limb-choppings to the distant past, and instead, let the LORD decided whom to punish, or not, in his time. It is our mission to invite others to join the Kingdom and demonstrate its goodness by the goodness in ourselves demonstrated by the good things we do for others. Muslims follow the teachings of a man of the world who had no understanding of the goodness of the Kingdom of YHVH. While most of Christianity left off violence, Islam has it at its roots. I suppose fanatical Christians could read that King David beheaded his enemies giving them a right to do so also, but Christ taught us to value all life, even the life of our enemies. If studied and practiced by the whole world, the teachings of Christ would transform a war-torn and bloody planet into a world of peace, health, and prosperity. It was just after the Hebrews came out of Eygpt, and He needed to setup some kind of laws for them! I think you'd do good by reading what EGW says about those times! Very good information she received from God about why they did what they did. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.
