Hollywood Movie of Adventist

Hollywood is releasing a film this week (Free State of Jones) that is about a SDA man and his social experiment.

Set during the Civil War, Free State of Jones tells the story of defiant Southern farmer, Newt Knight, and his extraordinary armed rebellion against the Confederacy. Banding together with other small farmers and local slaves, Knight launched an uprising that led Jones County, Mississippi to secede from the Confederacy, creating a Free State of Jones. Knight continued his struggle into Reconstruction, distinguishing him as a compelling, if controversial, figure of defiance long beyond the War.

Ooooh, that's cool. I was already planning to see that, but I had NO idea that was an Adventist story.

Newton Knight wasn't an Adventist.  His daughter Anna was the one who converted to Adventism.

Well, this post piqued my curiosity, so I looked up the movie reviews.   One thing for sure, I won't go see this movie; it's filled with killing.   But it's nice to know that some of the Southern blacks became Adventists through reading the literature supplied to them.   We never know the true outreach of our evangelizing efforts.
