Stan Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 To put it succinctly, the Fort Des Moines Church of Christ is suing for protection against a threat that does not exist under current law. bonnie Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Foolish people that think any of these laws will in time affect churches/religions..We are safe, let it go Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Rossw Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 What the Iowa church is doing is dangerous. What happens when "pre-enforcement challenge," gets struck down and sets a precedents? The issue is difficult because how is it ok to have certain civil rights but only some of the time? If the Iowa church fails all the churches will lose. Quote
bonnie Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 I am sure they are reacting to bills like SB 1146 and lawsuits like christian mingle online dating site. What happens when "pre-enforcement challenge," gets struck down and sets a precedents? Do you have any doubt we will find out? We have been told ad-nauseam that actions taken by the gay community would not happen and their desire to lead their lives as they choose by law would not impact the rights of anyone else Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Rossw Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 This whole issue is caused by inactivity of Christians. But how can we expect the church to be proactive on these issues when they don't even seek title 9 exemptions. If we don't speak out on these issues then we support them. Quote

I think the churches have been plenty active. Just not in opposition.Just the opposite by many.SDA's included. Now the same act blindsided by this community. After all they promised didnt they.Remember the ridicule here, did those opposed think it was catchy? How could it possibly harm the life of those that opposed the gay agenda? Some of the same will now claim to oppose this. The response from those on the forums and some SDA churches will be interesting as more and more laws are pursued. Will it be opposed with the same energy as anti WO is? Whether you are for or against WO there is at least an argument on both sides. A homosexual lifestyle is just plain wrong yet that is a yawn because it isnt catchy. WO goes on and on, those pro seem to agree it is not a salvational issue but it keeps being pushed. A homosexual lifestyle is. At least so far the org seems to agree, but dont worry guys, not contagious. But that WO ,have to watch that. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Rossw Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Is the Pro-WO push a distraction from other issues maybe? The homosexual push is the much bigger dilemma immediately facing the church yet it is set aside for a 'non salvation' issue. As a church do they support homosexuality? It almost seems so if they are not outspoken against it. Quote

It almost seems so if they are not outspoken against it. I don't put a lot of stock in conspiracy theories usually. The reaction to the two issues by liberals (for lack of a better definition)does puzzle me tho. I don't think the dilemma facing the church has been set aside,I am afraid for many it is no longer a dilemma.Maybe those that now seem concerned about pending laws that will have a huge impact on our educational system really didn't believe that the gay agenda would go that far. Maybe it was safe to play around the edges of a deviant lifestyle WO is not an issue, regardless of which side you are on that will influence laws as the gay community has and will continue to.But judging from the response here and in some of our churches it is far more divisive than the gay agenda. WO supporters/detractors will not demand your young daughter share a dressing room with a man..WO will not sue your business and destroy that business because you don't support women pastors. Yet,how many here are firmly in favor of men sharing restrooms/dressing rooms etc, lawsuits if someone feels that what is being asked violates their belief. Rossw Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Is a bathroom law somwthing our denomination has any chance at lobbying without direct negative effects? In similar fashion what are the pros and cons for a church to take a firm Biblical stance on homosexuality. We say nothing then the gay movement progresses. If outspoken the gay movement progresses in hostility. Quote
Rossw Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 At what point do we become fatalistic and accept the world(and the SDA denom) won't be fixed until the second coming? Quote

I am not sure I would use the word fatalistic. I don't think there is much doubt as to the outcome but knowing that is different than accepting as valid that which we know is biblically wrong. If outspoken the gay movement progresses in hostility. Same can and will be said about any of our distinctive beliefs. So do we go along to not raise any hostility? You can approach any topic in such an abrasive manner that you cause hostility. Doesn't have to that way for many. When SDA's accuse SDA's that believe the bible still valid on this issue are called hateful, self righteous etc little tough to reach those that might otherwise be reached. When it comes to Sabbath vs Sunday will those that claim the biblical sabbath be accused of being hateful etc? Rossw 1 Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. I shudder to think this possible within the denomination yet other current issues already present the same confoundedness. Quote
