Choosing this woman as a speaker says just as much about Hilary Clinton

Sexual predators have rights, too, the same rights as all Democrat politicians, prostitutes, liars, thieves, and murderers. They're all victims, victims of the Republicans, the Christians, and law enforcement. Get rid of the laws and there won't be any more criminals. Michael Brown's mother raised a monster, which makes her a great companion for Hillary.

Even though Michael Brown died after trying to kill a cop, he's still a victim of police brutality, according to BLM. Even though Blacks kill Blacks in numbers far exceeding the number of Blacks killed by cops, that's just considered delayed abortion by the Liberals and BLM. Even though millions of Black babies have been murdered inutero, that's nothing, according to the Liberals, compared with the few Blacks fighting with policemen trying to arrest them and subsequently getting shot and killed.

I'm thinking that upon Hillary's coronation, all of the morons who rioted and looted and burned businesses will be invited to sit behind her on the podium as guests of honor.

Lena Dunham Faces Accusations That She “Molested” Her Younger Sister

In her new memoir, Not That Kind Of Girl, Lena Dunham tells a couple of stories that include references to her younger sister Grace which are intended to illustrate Lena’s “weirdness” as a child, as well as her youthful obsession with the baby of the family. Instead, critics both on the right and the left say these stories not only cross the line of appropriateness, but suggest that young Lena’s treatment of her sister was sexually abusive, and that including them in her book is an extension of that abuse into adulthood.

In one story, Dunham writes about masturbating next to her younger sister in bed (Grace was insistent about sleeping with Lena at the time). In another, she describes bribing her sister with candy in exchange for increased demonstrations of affection. “As she grew, I took to bribing her time and affection: one dollar in quarters if I could do her makeup like a ‘motorcycle chick.’ Three pieces of candy if I could kiss her on the lips for five seconds. Whatever she wanted to watch on TV if she would just ‘relax on me.’ Basically, anything a sexual predator might do to woo a small suburban girl, I was trying.”

Comparing herself to a sexual predator is somewhat typical of Dunham’s blase attempts to shock her audience. But it’s this next story, from when she was 7 and Grace was 1, that has incited more controversy than she likely intended:

One day, as I sat in our driveway in Long Island playing with blocks and buckets, my curiosity got the best of me. Grace was sitting up, babbling and smiling, and I leaned down between her legs and carefully spread open her vagina. She didn’t resist and when I saw what was inside I shrieked…. My mother didn’t bother asking why I had opened Grace’s vagina. This was within the spectrum of things I did. She just on her knees and looked for herself. It quickly became apparent that Grace had stuffed six or seven pebbles in there. My mother removed them patiently while Grace cackled, thrilled that her prank had been a success.

Right-wing websites Truth Revolt and the National Review were the first to accuse Dunham of having “molested” her sister, but plenty of liberal and feminist critics are disturbed by Lena’s stories, especially the language she uses to describe them. The blogger Awesomely Luvvie (which I am a big fan of) wrote:

Some people are saying Lena sexually molested her little sister, and that she’s a predator. I’m stopping short of saying that but I can’t just brush it off as “normal childhood behavior.” Kids do creepy things but do those children turn around as adults to write about those moments like fond memories? Especially when those moments involve someone else’s private parts that you “spread apart.” Is it normal to compare what you did to something a sexual predator would as a full grown person?

Dunham responded to those accusing her of full-on molestation on Twitter, writing:

“The right wing news story that I molested my little sister isn’t just LOL – it’s really  upsetting and disgusting … I told a story about being a weird 7 year old. I bet you have some too, old men, that I’d rather not hear. And yes, this is a rage spiral. … Usually this is stuff I can ignore but don’t demean sufferers, don’t twist my words, back the [censored] up bros. … And by the way, if you were a little kid and never looked at another little kid’s vagina, well, congrats to you.”

I’m somewhere in the middle on this one. I was definitely bodily curious as a young child. I have a pretty solid memory of walking around my daycare center and flashing my vagina at the other kids. When I was six or seven or so, a neighbor boy and I each put some sort of camera (disposable? did those exist then?) in our pants and took photos of our crotches. If they were ever developed (and I don’t believe they were), they would have been dark and blurry and unrecognizable. Around that same time, my cousins and I invented a game called “smell butts” that involved just that — smelling each other’s butts — but I’m only comfortable sharing that here because my cousins just lovvvvve telling anyone who will listen about it. Basically, I don’t think that children being curious about their own or another child’s body parts is weird, especially before those body parts have been sexualized, but I DO think that it’s up to parents to teach their children about boundaries and consent as early as possible. What bothers me and many others about Dunham’s stories of touching and manipulating her sister for affection is that neither of her parents is shown stepping in and teaching Lena how to respect her sister’s body and boundaries. It’s as if, at least according to the way Dunham writes it, young Lena was given carte blanche to be as “weird” as she was inclined to be, even when that weirdness involved another person’s body, and most disturbingly, the body of an infant. Who knows if that’s actually accurate; Dunham may have left out any conversations her parents may have had with her about respecting her sister’s body, privacy and boundaries, because it didn’t match the story she wanted to tell.

And that’s the other thing. The way Dunham’s tells these stories is what’s most bothersome to me. Having been a fan of her work for awhile, I’m fairly used to her hipster-y, ho-hum approach to writing about taboo subject matters, and that’s what I think she was going for here, but with pretty gross results. She’s also admittedly prone to exaggeration, so I wouldn’t be surprised if these stories have been expanded upon to be much more extreme than they actually were. (In all seriousness, does a one-year-old girl have the dexterity and mobility to put anything inside her vagina? It took me multiple tries to figure out putting in a tampon at age 14, for goodness sakes.) That said, I agree with Luvvie that the way she describes “parting” her infant sister’s vagina is pretty  stomach-turning. I wouldn’t say that, based on these stories, Dunham molested her sister, but I do think she exhibits big-time issues with boundary crossing that has continued into adulthood in the publication of these stories as humorously intended fodder for her book. As Rebecca put it when we were emailing back and forth about this last night, “As much as children shouldn’t be shamed for their curiosity about bodies, children also should have the right to decide who touches them and when. Grace’s bodily comfort and safety should have trumped Lena’s curiosity and apparently it didn’t, and adult Lena doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with that. Consent, consent, consent — and a one-year-old cannot consent. Regardless of whether this was merely an issue of curiosity, Lena touched her sister’s vagina without her consent. And no, she absolutely should not be milking that image for shock value. It’s tasteless and disgusting at best and blithely abusive at worst.”

Just replace the name Josh Dugger as speaker for the RNC. Then you would see hate

Basically, anything a sexual predator might do to woo a small suburban girl I was trying,” Dunham acknowledged.

Dunham also admitted to sharing the same bed with Grace until she was seventeen, and that sometimes she “slipped my hand into my underwear to figure some stuff out” while sleeping next to her.

What Josh Dugger did to his younger siblings isn't any different than what Lena Dunham did or claimed to do with her sister.

Just like The Donald's sarcasm...

If Donald is for once telling the truth that he was just joking, someone needs to tell him that he is supposed to be running for Commander in Chief, no Comedian in Chief... And break the news that he is bombing in that contest too...

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

(And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

What does Trump's sarcasm have to do with Lena Dunham?

I know in the eyes of many there is very little that is considered wrong. For me,this is a woman I would not want sharing a bed with my granddaughters  or being a role model of any kind regardless of what Donald Trump may be doing or saying.

Yes it was very obvious who you were responding to. As Trump and his sarcasm hasn't anything to do with the topic and is once again an attempt to shift the focus.

I wonder if your remarks concerning Trump are seen as

Tom, do you think Lena Dunham is an appropriate person to campaign for Clinton? Does she represent the values of the democratic party including all others who support that party?

@bonnie, That wasn't my comment.

@Rossw, Not my issue.  Not my concern.  Seems a convenient distraction from the real and important issues, not just in this election, but in this country as a whole.  Maybe consider whether Donald Trump is an appropriate person to campaign for the office of the presidency of the US.  Does he represent the values of even the Republican party or any decent human being?

Didn't say it was your comment, only asked if your comment could be understood as "full of hate and little truth.

Just curious as to your remarks to ROSSW.  What does Hillary Clintons choice of Lena Dunham as a speaker have to do with Trump and his lack? The only way those that support Hillary on this forum seem to be able to do so is to attack Trump as if somehow he is responsible for her behavior. Can you defend her honesty and integrity as a politician without shifting to Trump?

The major difference between the two is we already have a clear look at Hillary as a corrupt politician Her treatment of  the women that came forward concerning her husband is only a very small part as "she campaigns for women's causes". While I wouldn't expect much change with Trump,  we don't have the same knowledge of Trump as a "leader" yet.

Apparently Trump does represent many. I wouldn't say he represents the Republican party as they are trying to dump him. I personally do not support Trump even with the terrible possibility of Clinton becoming president.

You don't think Clinton welcoming support by Dunham is an important issue? You probably think the Clinton email scandal is just a convenient distraction too. Well, Clinton knowingly broke the rules on handling classified material. That is a very important issue.

Her treatment of  the women that came forward concerning her husband...

First point is simple a false statement.  An extremist right wing label that is a favorite of the factually challenged false narrative about her.  No real evidence of actual corruption. None. Nada. Zip.  Her only elected public office she has held (her entire political career other than running for president) was as US Senator from NY. By most accounts, including by Republicans that may have differed with her positions,  she served well and with distinction as a Senator. Most objective assessments (i.e., with no political agenda) of her time as Secretary of State have been that she was a very hard working Secretary that represented the US well, did a lot to repair our damaged image in the world and strengthened our ties with our allies.  No accusations of corruption or criminal activity have come to anything other than empty political rhetoric. No prosecutions. No convictions.  As for accusations of lying and dishonesty, same thing.  Even with the misstatements about her e-mails and the confusion about the claimed mishandling of classified material, independent fact checkers rank her as the most honest politician that has been in the race through the primaries and now.

Your second point... Hard to see how that is an issue now.  Maybe consider the strength of character and apparent forgiveness she has shown about her husbands obviously public infidelity.  Standing by your man is considered a virtue by many.

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

You are free to see her as this honest politician as much as you like. A republican with all she has against her would have nothing but your scorn. Considering Hillary Standing by your man a virture by lying on national television and blaming everyone else while trying to destroy those who dared come forward could be considered a virtue by liberals. Those they tried to destroy are owed an apology as public as the condemnation they were put thru. Maybe not to you but the way I was raised if you are sorry for your publc lies and hurt you have caused that is what you do.

Did Hillary sign a "Sensitive Compartmented Information Nondisclosure Agreement" when she went into office as SofS? Did Hillary sign an OF-109 when she left office? If she did sign them then where are they? Perhaps she will go to jail if found. If she didn't sign them then why not?

Wouldnt Clinton knowingly changing the narrative of the cause of the Benghazi attack qualify as corruption?

Republicans have spent millions of Dollars every since Bill was in office trying to find something illegal in their lives. That was taxpayer money. Decades later, still nothing to support the claim. Maybe for the conspiracy minded who seldom seem to accept factual data.

There in lies the rub... Proof. Evidence. Facts. Truth.  All concepts that seem lost in the wild-eyed conspiracy crazed political agenda.  None of those matter it seems to those who are driven by extremist ideology.  Such things just get in the way of the hate fueled rhetoric of the right wing militants determined to win control and power.

The evidence is the Sunday news programs where Clinton came out and presented the lies on what happened. There was no evidence Benghazi happened as a result of a YouTube video.

Isn't it ironic the attacks happened on 9/11?

Where is the evidence Benghazi happened as a result of a YouTube video?
