Who and what do Melchizedek and Abraham represent in Genesis 14:17-24?

Did we even know that the event recorded in Genesis 14:17-24 was a representation of anything at all?

What do you believe?

Personally, I believe we find the interpretation of Melchizedek in Hebrews 7:1-4.

As we go through Hebrews 7:5-10, the Bible teaches that Abraham represented the Levitical Priesthood.

So, we have the Melchizedek Priesthood receiving tithes from the Levitical Priesthood and blessing the Levitical Priesthood.

Hebrews 7:8-10 cover Abraham representing the Levitical Priesthood.

Question: If Jesus could come to this earth right now, could He serve as a priest here?

Interesting Question! But where would he be a priest? In the Catholic Church? And why would he? Isn't he doing his Priestly duty right now in Heaven??

I understand your point phkrause. The reason I ask the question is because the Bible covers this point.

In Hebrews 8:1-6, in verses 4 and 5 in particular, the Bible teaches that if Melchizedek, or Christ should come to this earth, that "He should not be a priest".

Why not?!? Because the law concerning the Levitical Priesthood is still binding on this earth. Melchizedek can not serve on this earth but, in Heaven only.

I believe this is very important.
