Is this a religious liberty issue if the church is not seeking the title 9 exemption and is taking the 501 c 3 exemption?

As first proposed, the bill has been amended.    I read up on the material and considered it to potentially have some danger to religious liberty.

Due to the public outcry over the bill it has been amended, to include removing a  part of the bill that was of major concern to colleges that maintained a religious connection.

I have not read up extensively on the revised bill.  Therefore, I am not prepared, at this time, to make a statement as to whether or not it remains a danger to religious liberty.

In your first question your asked about Title 9 exemption and organized under the provision of 501 3c of the IRS.  My understanding is that the application of the provisions of the bill, either in the  beginning, or as amended, would not be affected by whether or not the school was a 501 3c which had not requested a Title 9 exemption.  Regardless, as I understand it, the provisions of the bill would potentially apply to the school (With some exceptions as specified in the body of the bill.).  I saw some potential problems in the original bill.  As I said, I have not reviewed the amended bill and do not have a present opinion on it.

Rossw, you are correct in asking where there is a religious liberty issue for a school  that has not requested a Title 9 exemption.  As  I understand the bill, the objectional provisions of the bill have been removed and it is a toothless tiger, that should have little concern for us, in its present form.

Those who object to it, and I have read a number of objections to the amended bill, are engaging in speculation as to what the future might hold, and how this bill might be amended in the future.  Such is simply speculation and not well founded.  But, that does not mean that such speculation should be immediately dismissed.

Therefore, I am uncertain as to what I think about this amended bill.  I am going to have to think about it some more.

True, the teeth of the bill were taken out but the state sure wants oversight and scrutiny of the schools! This is all purely hypothetical though as the SDA colleges have not sought exemption from the updated wording. 

The 501 c3 is not mentioned in this bill but I assume the Feds will use it as leverage in the future. 

It is interesting the state wants to see a list of all state funded students who are expelled. Obviously fishing for possible discrimination against students by the institution. The irony is the state is now discriminating against religious institutions based on beliefs the state disagrees with.
