CRTC ruling against expensive cable packages

Stan, you keep up with the CRTC more than I do, but basically what was announced today is that in response to Canadian consumers' complaints about high costs in cable TV outfitting.

I do not use cable at ALL because of the expense. I have Apple TV for entertainment, a couple channels and that is it. I connect my iPad with the TV if I want to watch anything online and have not missed television at all.

I would be interested in learning how much members here pay for their cablevision.

Our stuff is all bundled together. Telephone (landline), Internet and television. I think the television rate is as cheap as we could get it at about $50 per month. We used to pay closer to $110 per month but we dropped everything we could except the local stations and whatever else comes with the basic option. My daughter pays for Hulu, my son pays for Netflix and my husband pays for Amazon Prime. All I needed was the local news and weather--and I have to pay the most for just keeping myself informed. Ugh.

Remember when TV was free? And the phone was a whopping $12 a month, and the Internet was free in the form of the local library!

Aubrey, isn't local HD available where you are?  I have basic cable, but my Mom just uses a small indoor antenna with her TV.  She gets all the major network channels, as well as quite a few others, so she doesn't pay for TV.

@gail very familiar with this..  i have 25+ channels for $10.00 per month for a year.. all the main ones..  plus about 20 available for over the air..

I think it *is* available. We tried to do this for the rental house we had for a short time, but the reception was horrible. The only thing we were able to see clearly was MeTV.
