My first car was a white, 1960 Chevy Impala. My mother gave it to me. I remember that I could fix almost anything under the hood with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. These days you need all kinds of electronic diagnostic instruments. But I was thrilled when Chevy revived the model in 2000. (Actually they revived it in 1994 after a nine year hiatus, for a couple of years, then they revived it again in 2000.)

The 1st brand-new car that I purchased was a 1981 Mercury Lynx.  It was a beauty and red in  color.  I really liked it. I took it to  Korea in 1984 and brought it back to the U.S. when I returned.  All in all, I put about 125,000 to 150,000 miles on it.

That Lynx was an interesting vehicle.  I had Ford build it to my order and that was arranged in Seoul, Korea.  All financial arrangements were made in Seoul.  Ford then delivered it to a dealer in the Sacramento area and I took delivery of it there.    Three +  years later I returned to Korea and I took the Lynx with me, where I drove it around Korea for almost two years.  When I returned to the U.S. I brought the car with me.   It was a good car and served me well.

 

Some years later I moved to Panama.  At that time I took a larger vehicle, a Ford with me.  I drove it all over Panama and up the highway to San Jose, Costa Rica.  Getting it across the boarders of the various countries that I traveled through was an experience in itself.  It required a separate insurance policy good for each country and required much paperwork and paying someone to spend a week processing the paperwork.
