If you click on the dots, you can see their exact address and photos.

This surprises me, on how many there are, how many involved children, and how public this information is.

One has to ask, is their debt to society ever really paid?

Even in the sleepy little town in which I live, there were 11 within 3 miles of my address.

One assumes a debt is paid, but if one racks up another debt?

Even after one's debt is paid to society, the public has a right to know the criminal history of convicted criminals.

This is more than just sex offenders. If I am a business person, I should be able to know that the person applying for a job withme was once convicted of embezzlement.

If I am an insurance investigator, I should have the right to know that the person who is applyling for a policy from my company has been convicted of insurance fraud.

If I am a woman who regularly walks alone in the early hours of the morning, I should have the right to know that the convicted sex offender, who lives in a house I walk by each morning, was once convicted of sexual assualt and kidnappping of a jogger.

Do they?

If a former criminal has paid his debt to society, then the past is done...anything current is new and that is what we are to base our judgements on....or should...OTherwise, the debt is NEVER paid....

Therefore, a embezzler who has paid his debt to society, and has gone thru the penal system, is concidered reformed.

Or at least, that is the arguement... The reality of this is that while they SHOULD not be concidered a threat to society, often they are....since it is easier for them to revert to former behaviors when oppertunity presents itself. But many times, they are not....

In reality, each conviction should be judged upon the merit of the offense and evaluated accordingly.

Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve.

You have actually answered your own question by the sheer numbers of children involved. The most elelmenary research will tell anyone that the vast majority are not a first time offender. Level three sex offenders are those almost certain to reoffend.

For those that think that having that knowledge made public is unfair and that the sex offender has paid his debt to society, I suggest you turn a blind eye and a deaf hear. Do not click on any site to find out who is in your neighborhood. After all no one wants to be accused of being unfair to someone who has paid his debt to society. In blissful ignorance allow your children out to play next door to this person. Allow your child to become accustomed to his presence and feel secure with him around.

Many times on this forum this topic has come up. If unfair to publish his name and address and make it known because the debt has been paid, it is also unjust to make it known in our schools, churches, our pathfinder clubs. Let him become a trusted leader and mentor to YOUR CHILDREN, if you wonder if their debt to society has not been paid.

For me, I don't want to ever have to live with the knowledge of that family in Florida, NOT EVER. Of one of my beloved granddaughters being buried alive with only her stuffed animal for comfort, after days of being sexually molested.

I want to know who is living next door that is a level three sex offender and is most likely already watching one of my beautiful, irreplacable granddaughters to make his next victim.

I do not want to be like Dru Shodins family from N. Dakato, searching desperatly for one of my granddaughters last seen in a shopping mall. Day after day, praying night after night. Only to find out once again another level three sex offender that no one knew was there, abducted, brutilized, and then murdered her. Dumped her body like so much road kill. Then goes back home to his mama. No thanks, I will let all those bleeding hearts turn the blind eye. Welcoming the level three offender into their neighborhood, not wanting the background information that could save their child from torture , rape, and death. Each time they do this and pay their debt to society we certainly don't want to add more burden than they are already carrying.

Just remember each of the little dots represent a child just like yours or mine, It represents untold tortures that we cannot begin to understand. It also represents untold numbers willing, waiting and ready to committ again.

Good to know. Now, I wonder if there is a website that lists juvenile offenders so that I might be able to figure out who vandalized my house last night.

I am sure under age offenders are protected by law in most cases, unless tried as an adult

Quite a rant there Bonnie. Who are you aiming it at? I don't think anyone disagrees with you regarding level III sex offenders.

However, consider this scenario:

A young man meets a young woman. The young man is 19, the young woman is 15. She lies and tells him she is 17. They go out, have sex, the parents of the young woman find out, and have him charged with rape.

He's convicted, sent to prison for 3 years, and his information made public on this website. Then what?

1. Quite a rant there Bonnie. Who are you aiming it at? I don't think anyone disagrees with you regarding level III sex offenders.

Clio, quite wrong in that statement. If it were worth my time I would go back and locate the posts pointing out how unfair and unchristian this is. Christ says forgive "7 x 70" "they have paid their debt to society",yada, yada, yada.

My cousin was killed by the Green River serial killer. Maybe I could still find the quote where it is said, "Now, after all, he is no worse than we are" Speaking of the rapist/killer. If so, maybe you all would like to invite him home to dinner.

If I had my way their liscence plate would carry a warning so children approached by a predator trying to get them into a car had warning.

There is no reason to consider that scenerio in what I said. I made a point of saying level three sex offenders. Those that are almost guarenteed to offend again. While the scenerio you mentioned may be part of this in no way did you see me imply or state that I supported anything like that. What I scanned was speaking of repeat offenders and predators. Your senerio hardly makes the young man a predator.

If you read, this law came about because of a tiny defenseless little girl buried alive with her stuffed dolphin for comfort becuase no one knew where this piece of ...........

was and no one apparantly cared.

The question was asked when do people like this get to be considered to have paid their debt to society. NEVER, if it means letting them out, roam free, unsupervised to torture, rape, and bury alive another defensless child. NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forgivness and redemption? Let it take place in prison, behind bars for life. True repentence and redemption ??? What a blessing they can be to others behind those bars. Just keep them away from innocent children now and forever more. Forgive them, but don't give them 490 chances at a child of mine, or the equivalent of forgive 7 x 70.

You can throw all the scenerio's of teenager's in here you want, but I made it quite clear I was speaking of predators and level three offenders. I also think the article is as well.

Not in this thread, and I have no knowledge of the other you mention. If I do, then I have forgotten my participating in it.

Understanding that your cousin was murdered by him, I can a little more understand your sarcasm. You hold a grudge against others here quite well too. I did nothing to deserve what you are throwing at me.

Why not? The website includes them. I saw the name of the young man I mentioned in the scenario above. His story was in our local paper, thus I recognize the name.

I care. And I cared at the time.

That question was indeed asked. And in looking at the website, it is certainly NOT dedicated to level III offenders. It encompasses all. The simple statement, "People like this" also encompasses all.

Forgiveness does not absolve one from walking out the consequences of one's action. I do not disagree with you in this regard.

Yes... as though that's all there is to this whole website. It's not all there is. And there are more than level III's on it.

In considering the scenario, I think it is entirely fair to have this young man put in jail for 3 years and his record marred for life.

Let it be a lesson to all young people--men and women alike--sex should be reserved for the marriage bed alone!

An interesting thing to note is that Jesus blots out our sins; He doesn't erase them. There is a permanent, albeit illegible, stain on our records.

1. Not in this thread, and I have no knowledge of the other you mention. If I do, then I have forgotten my participating in it.

No, and I was not addressing you.

2.I'm very sorry for you loss. Mine was also murdered by the I-5 killer in California. And I lived in Seattle during the Green River period. Are we even now?

It was not said as if my family was the only one it happened to. Carol was only one among many of his victims. It was a statement only showing that Yes, many here have in fact felt identifying predators, not teenage offenders, but predators after their release was to harsh. And no Clio, I have no use or intent to use my cousins butchery to get even with anyone

3.Understanding that your cousin was murdered by him, I can a little more understand your sarcasm. You hold a grudge against others here quite well too. I did nothing to deserve what you are throwing at me.

First of all, initially I threw nothing at you as nothing was directed at you. Go back and read as to what was said .

Saying I am holding a grudge is little to much of an easy way out as well. It is more like a literal sick feeling in the pit of my stomach when I know first hand what families go thru and then read what some "high minded" individual who hasn't a clue say what he/she thinks sounds the most pious. Again, my cousins parents were only one of thousands, certainly not unique in their heartbreak, but sure gave me a clue looking at their stunned, hopeless faces. Do I hate anyone for what was said, NO. Do I have a desire to get even, NO. That to me is a grudge. I would never want anyone hurt, in danger of any kind, but if God were to grant me one wish is would be for all those that don't get it to have a 24 hour period where in their mind they experience the pain, fear, heartbreak, grief, hopelessness of these victims and their families. How quickly I believe the tune would change and they would sing another verse.

And NO, don't someone jump on this and decide I want someone hurt.I would like for some to somehow , some way have some idea of what they want turned loose on society when they say these level three sex offenders have paid their debt.

For someone to tell me that a predator has paid his debt and needs to be treated like the rest of us, my only response is "Have at it" That means you(general) treat him as you would any neighbor. If not, please don't try to sound so pious and forgiving.

4. Good idea. Have you done anything about it?

As much as I and others can for now. Some work has been done along those lines in Mn, but hard to get passed thru a very liberal state

Most of the focus has been within the denomination. Education and prevention is treated with a big yawn in many area's. Consequences's for offender's has gotten marginally better, because they have had no choice. Lawsuits are beginning to take a toll where it hurts the worst.

5. Why not? The website includes them. I saw the name of the young man I mentioned in the scenario above. His story was in our local paper, thus I recognize the name.

Then I was wrong and this should not be part of it. Far to long the pendulum has swung in the favor of the predatos, "light slap on the fingers and now go home and be a good boy". Now we are going to try and take it back and all get caught in the cross hairs. No, it isn't right. Answer, don't know. But I do know the answer is not to refuse to identify the level three offenders as often and as soon as they can be.

6. I care. And I cared at the time.

When I said no one cared I was referring to those not tracking this man till to late. But on the other hand, why couldn't the same response be expected here. "This man that did this is no worse than we are" Maybe someone would be kind and christian enough to share that with her daddy.

7. That question was indeed asked. And in looking at the website, it is certainly NOT dedicated to level III offenders. It encompasses all. The simple statement, "People like this" also encompasses all.

If that is what it says, yes it does. I agree it is to harsh for this instance, BUT, if I know I can pay a penalty for life for committing an act I had best make blame sure I am thinking with the upper portion of my body, namely my head, not below the waist. Many people in this life pay severe consequences while others seem to skim by. I don't have the answers for them, but there is a way out of going to prison for having sex with an underage girl. There was absolutely no way out for this tiny little defenseless girl that ended up terrified, struggling to breathe, praying for her daddy to come I am sure. This teenage boy at least had a choice.

8. Forgiveness does not absolve one from walking out the consequences of one's action. I do not disagree with you in this regard.

Good, I really didn't think you would, but some have/do.

Very popular statement here is "Christ wrote the sins quietly in the sand"

9.Now what?

Maybe everyone be a little more proactive where it counts. I am not sure. The only thing I am sure of is we cannot refuse to identify all level three sex offenders as loudly and as often as possible.

You may still not understand where I am coming from and by your definition of a grudge, believe it to be one, it is something that makes me literally sick. My definition of a grudge is somewhat different.

But I will keep screaming about this as long as these predators are running free. AND as long as there are people in and out of our denomination that think it wrong to identify them.

Behind bars for life would suit me just fine.

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

OregonUnfortunately, Oregon does not currently publicize the registered sex offenders living within the state. Consequently, we are unable to provide any information about Oregon's sex offender population.

In discussions with Oregon state officials, we learned that Oregon does plan to provide a web-based registry of its sex offenders. Their planned implementation date is July 1, 2006.

We will eagerly await the introduction of Oregon's online sex offender registry. As soon as Oregon data is available, we will provide it to Family Watchdog visitors.

I have mixed feelings about such information being posted in this way.

In the UK we had a spate of vigilante attacks on convicted offenders which were in the public domain. Some of the convicted ones who were attacked then went underground and some dropped off the official register when they moved.

We also had a number of cases of mistaken identity where homes and families were attacked, because of misinformation.

Whilst I am of the opinion that the police, familes and other authorities should be aware of the presence of sex offenders in the area, I am not sure if putting such info such as personal addresses on the web helps.
