That chromosome contains some 5,000,000 (5-million) base pairs, which make up some 4,300 genes. The human cell contains some 46 chromosomes, in its nucleus, which together contain some 3,000,000,000 (3-billion) base pairs. These base pairs establish the genetic differences that identify each of us as a unique person. It is this complexity of human life that contributes, in part, to our differences.
