Fundamental Belief # 29

I have been asked what I know about a proposal to add a fundamental belief # 29 to the list.  See the following:

A vain attempt to exert more control and pressure on Adventists.  Since when is an Adventist education a biblical value?  Whose responsibility is it to bring up children in the way of the Lord - parents or schools?  Who's gonna pay the tuition for kids whose parents are manipulated into thinking that giving their kids an Adventist education as a requirement for salvation?  or will those families have to sacrifice themselves into bankruptcy to ensure they meet the requirements of the denomination?  I find this move to virtually "require" good SDA's to give their kids an Adventist education equivalent to the RCC saying you will go to hell if you don't conform to the world's idea of climate control.

I think "Home School" would be preferable.  Maybe if they didn't spend the money for an expensive SDA school, Mom could stay home.

We home-schooled our youngest girls until high school.  They were wonderful kids.  They graduated both HS and College with top grades; one is in the top 10% of her class in Medical School; the other is graduating as No. 1 in her class in Dental Hygiene.  True, they were raised in an SDA home.  On the other hand, our oldest son was sexually abused at an SDA school by a teacher he loved; and the conference protected the teacher and sent him off to teach elsewhere.  The church functionally disfellowshipped and shunned my son. He's been dead now for almost 12 years.  I suspect that the guilt and shame over the abuse heaped on him by the SDA educational system had something to do with his demise.  Would I want to send my kid (if I had any more) to another SDA school? No way!  I would recommend people to NOT join the SDA church if SDA education becomes a fundamental belief.
