cryptic posts

To no one in particular:

has anyone else noticed the "cryptic" posts that are popping up in various threads?  And I'm not speaking of the fun type of trivia games.

I don't care for posts where it's a guessing game to figure out what someone is saying.  I prefer someone to say what they mean and mean what they say.  Yes, there's going to be times that what we write will be clear as mud, but at least give the semblance of acting as if you care that people understand what you want to say.  (Unless you *don't* really care, and are just getting your jollies out of being obtuse.)

(And yes, I can be guilty of it as much as the next person.)

I hate having to spell things out most of the time. I like to encourage others to think for themselves--to stretch the imagination--and if it's still too cryptic, they can ask, or just assume that they're probably NOT the audience for which the post was intended.

As a guilty one, who occasionally does such, it must be assumed that I think there is a place for cryptic posts.

However, I do have some agreement with Pam and in actual practice, I will often ignore cryptic posts that others have written, as people do, at times, with those that I write.

But, cryptic posts may cause individuals to think without monopolizing the conversation.  for that they serve a purpose.

I have recently posted a cryptic post which Pam has read. 

Some people liked it.  Others probably had no idea as to what I had said.
