Moderators Gerr Posted December 1, 2016 Moderators Posted December 1, 2016 I love chestnuts! I still remember the roasted chestnuts I bought on the street by the Trevi fountain in Rome years ago. But I may have to give it up - 1) Unless you inspect each one, almost half of what you buy is rotted by mold, 2) and most importantly, removing the shell/husk is very labor intensive, and then much of the "meat" is wasted.. Do you have an easy method to remove the shell without sacrificing the contents? rudywoofs (Pam) 1 Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted December 1, 2016 Members Posted December 1, 2016 I haven't had roasted chestnuts since 1975 when I was in Vienna! Loved the outdoor roasting by the vendors. The chestnuts were always easy to peel, as I remember.. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Members phkrause Posted December 2, 2016 Members Posted December 2, 2016 During this time of year, in NYC, there are vendors just about on every corner selling chestnuts! Don't believe I've ever had one though!! Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

Kevin, I think that is true with freshly harvested roasted chestnuts. Try the ones you buy in the store. Quote
