Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted December 4, 2016 Moderators Posted December 4, 2016 What is the location of the place on Earth which has the most measured lightning? Clues: * If you think it is the Mitumba Mountains in central Africa, you are wrong. In 2016, scientists determined that another area has more lightning. * The answer is the name of a body of water. * The answer is NOT one of the oceans of the world. * The answer is a place where lightning generally flashes every night of the year. * The Florida Everglades has more severe thunderstorms, but less frequent than the answer. Information about lightning which may not be related to the question: * Of the 500 spots with the most lightning, more than half are located in Africa. * Of the top 30, 24 are located near mountain ranges. * Oceanic lightning tends to occur at night. * Terrestrial lighting tends to happen in the afternoon. NOTE: Information for the above came from the December 2016 National Geographic. That article included information that came from the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, (2016).
