Sojourner Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Have been following the news that Obama decided to break with policy and abstain rather than veto yet another U.N resolution singling out Israel. It is interesting that this time around Jerusalem was included and that according to the U.N the holiest site to Jewish people - the Wailing Wall is now considered to be occupied territory. Perhaps as his career ends, Obama now finds himself in a position where he can say what he actually thinks himself rather than being concerned about the general will of his colleagues. My suspicions are that this resolution will end up being of far more benefit to the right than the leftists that brought it. The greatest hope the left has to unseat Trump is to split the Republican party, yet it seems that Trump's comments on it have actually gone some way towards bringing them together along with a number of Democrats giving their support also. Perhaps one could ask why the resolution yesterday could not have been on Syria instead of being no 200+ on Israel. Whilst we saw so many people maimed and killed in Aleppo this week the fact is that those people will never command the attention of the U.N as a group of Jewish people do that wish to live in Jerusalem. The bombing raids will start soon on Idib in Syria and again it will simply be ignored whilst Israel is again the main focus of any discussions at the U.N. The sheer hatred that people have for Israel is mind blowing. They are openly stating that the Palestinian state must be cleansed of all Jewish people and that no Jew can ever live there. Yet Donald Trump suggests that things will be alot different at the U.N from Jan 20. I hope he is right. If the U.N cant intervene in Syria and do things to help those people then it should change and must change if it is to have any real relevance at all. Quote
