Hi Nic. I am a Biblical counselor. We use the Bible almost exclusively. The answers in the Word are accurate to every problem that we face.

I am amazed how God can change a life.

I am amazed how accurate the Bible is.

I am amazed how sin binds & destroys.

Secular counseling is ineffective to address the spiritual issues that most people struggle with. For instance, if my problem is pride & the need to control others, secular counseling will not resolve the problem--it may even strengthen it.

Re: "The answers in the Word are accurate to every problem that we face."

So, how would you address someone with Tourette's Syndrome?

In my thinking, and I am published on this, the best of counseling has two supporting legs, so to speak. One leg is Biblically oriented. The second is what you would probably call secular counseling.

One of my very dear friends, whom I have known for 6+ years, has a 16 year old son who used to suffer from Tourette's.

When he was fourteen, he enrolled in a discipleship class, and after about 6 months, and completing two of the three discipleship modules that were part of his small group study, he began to participate in Biblical counseling sessions and internalizing what he was reading and learning in the discipleship class.

Overthe course of that year, his Tourette's Syndrome symptoms gradually disappeared. By the time he was 15, on the day he was baptized, he stood before their church of 1200 people and spoke for 15 minutes about his experiences, his deliverance, joy and confidence in his miracle working Abba.

He remains symptom free today.

A heart where He alone has first place.

Be thankful for that.

Do you think such is the answer for everyone?

Hi Stan,

I would love to start something but I am constrained by lack of time and other misnistries that I have in front of me that need to be worked on. I will pray and see what or if the Lord would have me do something.

I need to work on my music but haven't been able to do much with it. I play guitar (33 years) and we visit some elderly saints and sing for them, but that's about it. I need to start recording and making CDs, but time....

Maybe I can do some kind of online music ministry?

I do not know Gregory. It is a mystery beyond my understanding, but I do know that such cannot harm, and can only exert a positive influence on the life of any entering in to such study.

I also know that physical healing and miracles are not a thing of the past or that happen only to "someone in a story". Such healing has touched my life in a very personal way more than once.

It has touched me personally, my husband, my friend's son, and another friend with several diagnosed psychiatric and psychological disorders.

Dear Greg: Bless you. As you know, there are different kinds of issues that people struggle with.

Thanks for the neat story, Clio. We have seen many similar miracles.

Spiritual issues must be repented of: There is no other solution:

Pride

Rebellion

Moral failure

Occult issues

Bitterness

Hypocrisy

returning Evil-for Evil

Materialism

I confess that we haven't worked with tourette's syndrome. I am very hesitant to put labels on people. ADD, Bi-polar, etc. Labels are a death sentence to a person. Minerth-Meyer asserts that over 92% of depression has an emotional or spiritual cause. We have found that to be true, as well.

Of the 16-couples that came through our home office for ministry last year, each of them had some work to do in the areas of Pride, bitterness, and moral. We try to find the source of what brings defeat into people's lives and apply the principles of the Word of God to that core issue (in love).

Emotional issues must be taken to Jesus for healing:

Abuse (sexual, physical, spiritual)

Disowned

Abandonded

Neglect

Despised

Ignored

There are also pressure patterns that will damage a person, especially in their youth.

These too, must be resolved by the Lord. Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted.

"The thief comes to kill, steal and destroy. But I am come that you might have life, and a lot of it" (my own translation). True counseling is a counselor choosing to love a client, and serve them. We don't charge for our ministry, because I do not believe that God ever intended for people to have to pay $80-150 per hour to resolve issues. I'm just a country boy--not a licensed professional. My commerical roofing business provides for my needs well.

Warm regards,

olger
