Administrators Gail Posted January 7, 2017 Administrators Posted January 7, 2017 Ever wonder why different tellings a of the Lord's Prayer say, "Forgive us our debts," or, "Forgive us our sins (or trespasses)"? Kenneth Bailey offers an explanation: In the Aramaic, the word, khoba, means both sins and debts.-Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes, pp 125, 126 The emphasis on debts means we are asking for forgiveness for debts we have to God; for good things we should have done and have left undone. Sins are things wrongs we have done against God or our fellow man. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
