Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 13, 2017 Members Posted January 13, 2017 Does anyone else keep track of some threads here, not necessarily because you're particularly interested in the topic, but because the threads are so weird? I find myself going back to various active threads simply because [to me] the exchanges between people are so fascinatingly bizarre because of the fanaticism and sometimes rudeness shown by some. It's almost like watching a forum version of "The Twilight Zone." I've often thought it would make an interesting psychological study to dissect the online personalities of forum posters. There seems to be those who are omnipotent and all knowing — those whose opinions are unwavering and the final word. They make every attempt, even at the expense of being obnoxious, to convince you their ideas are the only ones to consider. Then there are those who offer opinions or comments on all types of topics. But then there are those who are argumentative, just for the sake of arguing. Then there are those who are very needy. And those who only post on "spiritual" topics. And the seldom-posting-lurkers. Quite a bunch, and most religious-oriented forums have them all. JoeMo, GayatfootofCross and CoAspen 3 Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. GayatfootofCross Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Yes we are quite a handful. I read tons more than I post. It is a glimpse to see what oils their and our gears. Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted January 13, 2017 Moderators Posted January 13, 2017 I probably fit one or more of your catagories. I find it more interesting the tons of catagories that I do not read. What and why that occurs in me and others, just might make an interesting study. rudywoofs (Pam) and JoeMo 2 Quote Gregory
Outta Here Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Bizarre, quirky...it's what makes the world go 'round! I generally don't follow the long threads, I don't have that much time to focus on any one subject. I guess you could say that I'm one of the weird ones who lurk most often, then only comment briefly on a wide variety of topics--then I seldom stick around long enough to really engage in deeper conversation. Often I think, "well, I've said my peace, time to move on." Quote

Most would probably fit into more than one category, but in a forum setting most would fit primarily into one. I'm not sure where I'd place you, Gregory. .... Actually, you're probably in categories I've not mentioned: conciliatory without being maudlin, and what I would call the "Mr. Ed" category ("Mr. Ed" being the horse who "would never speak unless he had something to say")... Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted January 13, 2017 Moderators Posted January 13, 2017 Pam, thank you. I consider that to be a compliment. rudywoofs (Pam) and GayatfootofCross 2 Quote Gregory
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted January 13, 2017 Moderators Posted January 13, 2017 Maudlin: By the way, maudlin is often associated with someone who is under the influence of alcohol. Pam, thank you for pointing out that you do not consider me to be drunk. Quote Gregory
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 13, 2017 Author Members Posted January 13, 2017 I use the word "maudlin" in the old-fashioned sense.... where one tends to be emotionally "goopy" or syrupy.. Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted January 13, 2017 Moderators Posted January 13, 2017 Pam, I figured that. But the other definition presented with the opportunity to have some fun. rudywoofs (Pam) 1 Quote Gregory
JoeMo Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 I believe that many people have an "in-person" personality and in "internet" personality. I know that I tend to be more clear, logical, and bold here than I am in person (maybe because I have time to filter my comments as I type rather than engage in concurrent cases of verbal diarrhea and mental constipation when in person. For the most part I have no filters between my brain and my mouth). It would be interesting to contrast people's online personality vs. their in person personality. rudywoofs (Pam) and Outta Here 2 Quote

And me being a verbal person who pretty much thinks out loud (and talk fast before i forget my thought cause my synapses moves on to other tangents) can be very frustrating with the typed out word. And I type with one finger and a sore thumb hitting the space key who also flunked grammar. ( and have to pause to hit the shift key to capitalize..ugh .. And always seem to forget that one word ( or more ) that help make my thoughts understood in my rush and not catch it till the edited time is over! And I am not a good debater ..All I can do is share my observations and thoughts and life experiences. And Stan if your are watching...
