Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted February 7, 2017 Moderators Posted February 7, 2017 Aattila Andices, writing in the journal Science, published by the Lorand University in Budapest tells us that dogs can distinguish words and the intonation of human speech as well as humans do! In this study their brain activity was studied with a fMRI scanner. Recordings of the speech of their trainer was played for the dogs to listen to. This speech contained a range of vocabulary and intonation which both praised the dogs and was neutral in content. The positive words in the recordings prompted the strongest activity in the reward center of the dogs brain.
