What do pastors need to do to get people to commit?

Here is a brief statement from the article:

If your focus is trying to get people to commit to your Sunday service schedule, your denominational preference, maintaining your church building or anything like that, you might as well stop reading right now. In fact, you might as well close your church right now.

While I agree with him on the small church thing he is not revolutionary.  He is coming to the game quite late. The SDA church was told well over 100 years ago to have small churches widely scattered around the country.  We ignored the advice and built great big churches and congregated in large numbers instead of being out spreading the gospel like we were told to do.  We see the results of our ignoring what God told us to do today.

In Adventism today, the most effective congregation are often seen to be churches with multiple small groups within then.

NOTE:  Some years ago a SDA study determined that congregations needed to be about 200 as a minimum to be effective.

By effective I mean large enough to have a comprehensive program  that both reaches people outside of the congregation and also provides for the needs and spiritual growth of local members.
