If 1000 people enter the contest they are taking in a minimum of $25K and giving out less than $1K in prizes. That doesn't even account for what they will make if they publish the article in several places. That is over and above what they would pay the person to use their article. I am not saying that is their only motivation but at the level that they are awarding prizes it certainly looks that way. If they only get a little over 1% of the membership of the NPUC to enter one article each they will have 1000 entries. Quote
